Commercial Description:
For the Christmas and New Year festivities the Gouden Carolus range is now extended to include this seriously heavy strong brown ale. Het Anker are thus rekindling a long lost tradition from the days of yore when they marketed Cardinal Christmas and Anker Christmas.

once again, dark and clear. less dark. great elegant head. smells like bubble gum. smells like break. alcohol does not hide in flavor. reminds me of an eisbock or dopple. so malty.

Dark amber, this looks as potent as it sounds. Aroma is almost aggressive with fruit and spice... aniseed? Extraordinary. Flavor follows along the same tracks; plum, herbs, liquorice. No taste of alcohol, but you can really feel the 10.5%. Yeasty finish with a nice warm glow. Excellent, but while tasting this with a group of friends, there were some opposite opinions, not the easiest brew around.

Wonderful dark mahogany with clear red colour when seen through. Great big beige creamy headStunning aroma. Fruit, yeast, cloves, plums, alcohol, some cinnamon, some ginger. Taste is equally complex. Good full mouthfeel and slightly vinious. Plums, sweet, raisins, coriander, some vanilla - stunning.

Bottle: Red pour with an off white head. Aroma, spice, yeast, caramel malts, and some cinnamon. Flavor, spicy, brown sugar, more sweet than anything. There are some fruits in there as well. Good stuff.

Bottle: Pours dark amber with a large beige head. Nice lacings. Nose dominated by burned malt, caramel and anis. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark fruits, licorice, coffee and brown sugar. Full bodied. Molasses texture. Sweet and alcoholic finish.
