Commercial Description:
For the Christmas and New Year festivities the Gouden Carolus range is now extended to include this seriously heavy strong brown ale. Het Anker are thus rekindling a long lost tradition from the days of yore when they marketed Cardinal Christmas and Anker Christmas.

Bottle, 2006 (the one rated). Aroma is sweet with caramel, yeast and a little banana. Flavour is alcohol, sweetness and caramel. 2003: Raisins, ripe fruit, caramel and prunes. Delicious aroma. Flavour is sweet with raisins though quite light if palate. 9-4-6-3-15

Bottle sampled with Beerded_one. Pours dark bronze with a large light tan head. Aroma of black licorice, spices galore, fruit, and citrus. The flavor is smooth, loads of amazing spices, licorice, citrus, moderate carbonation, and fruit. Excellent brew.

750 ml bottle. Dark amber colourw ith a mostly diminishing fizzy and frothy off-white head. Licorice, light toffee aroma. Yeasty and toffee flavours with some light anise. Medium body, effervescent.

From draft. Golden brown, semi-transparent colored pour with a thin finger of creamy beige head. An aroma of medicinal spiced cherries, a touch of bourbon, and a hit of anise blend in a bit of a boozy fashion. Light bodied, full flavored mouthfeel. Caramels and prunes create a richly malty body, but this is seasoned with a menthol spice that leaves a medicinal taste lingering on my taste buds. Too hot on the finish as well.

Bottled(330ml). -So far the best Christmas beer that I’ve had. Dark brown coloured, medium sized pale brown head, spicey port like nose. Aroma is nice malty and fruity with great spicy notes and touch of yeast and coriander. Lingering alcohol in the finish.

0,75l bottle. The looks are dark brown with a small off-white head which never quite disappear. Aroma of cognac, cherry and... something I couldn’t quite place. Intense flavours of wine, plums and liqurice.
