It´s wious and to much pepper. krisbierjaeger (844), dolores, Colorado, USA Dec 21, 2005 het anker’s holiday brew might be the nearest thing to liquid fruitcake i’ve yet beheld. no, not that cheap, sucky fruitcake composed of artificially colored, rubbery psuedo-fruit blobs embedded in discusting gummy nogahide cake that’s pressed into molds like particleboard and has a dangerous half-life longer than strontium. no, i mean real home-made fruit cake blended judiciously with chunks of dried cherries, pineapple and plum, praline and orange peel with pulsing arteries of honey and rose water-- and finally dosed with enough brandy to render it incendiary within fifty feet of the fireplace. this is lovely and potent stuff. the cork pops like a starting gun on your race toward insousiant inebriation. like a brazilian beauty queen the caramel malts are brown and flushed with ruby highlights -- and even on a winter night, this gal is nude with amber clarity under that frothy woolen blanket of foam. the lace made lingering snow flake filigrees on the snifter--arabesques that defied gravity and traded electrons with the surface of the glass in a bid for archival permanence. this tenacity is owing to the huge amounts of sugar demanded by this recipe. when the sugar export market responded to the needs of just this beer, we can reasonably imagine fidel castro gleefully pumping his jubilant fists like a winning boxer. so share it with a loved one; this is a liqueur, a dessert-- and strong-- your designated driver shouldn’t be allowed to even sniff this... Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Dec 21, 2005 Bottle shared with some fellows at work. Amber color, foamy head. Nose was candy and spice, caramel. Taste was like the smell, with some wondeful warming from the high abv. Great x-mas brew. Aggie80 (708), Michigan, USA Dec 21, 2005 Beautiful pour with solid head and a nice lace pattern. Wide variety of spicy undertones in this Belgian. Smooth, none of the alcohol burn one often finds in high content brews. I like it, but for the price expected it to be a bit more ’special.’ Got bonus points for my wife picking it up as a surprise for me. saxo (3516), Højbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark Dec 21, 2005 Amber color, nice and lasting head. Aroma is fruity, some dried fruits, milky and with some spices. Some raisins and figs. Flavor from sweet fruits, malty, strong with some alcohol. Malty, some brown sugar, peach and banana. A bit nutty and vinous. Malty finish with some strong notes Indra (2023), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Dec 21, 2005 750ml bottle, 2004 vintage. 10% abv. Fruity, sugary aroma, malty, spicy, complex and rich with hints of red grape, dried orange peel, black cherry, milky chocolate, toffee, faint leafy herbs, flowery perfume and doughy yeast. Hazy rusty red-brown color with a fully lasting ivory head and spectacular lacing. Flavor profile is predominantly malty, dark and sweet but featuring plenty of subtlety as well, with suggestions of mint, cookie, raisin, banana, licorice and pepper in the background and with an extremely lengthy, fruity, spicy and satisfying finish that shows only the merest hint of the stated alcohol content. Creamy and very smooth on the palate, body is quite full. Decadent and highly enjoyable. A fine choice for this time of year. beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Dec 20, 2005 Pours a clear brown color with a thin light brown head. Excellent aroma of malt, spices and yeast. Excellent flavor of malt, spices and yeast. Light to medium body with a dusty mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Excellent Christmas treat.
