COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For the Christmas and New Year festivities the Gouden Carolus range is now extended to include this seriously heavy strong brown ale. Het Anker are thus rekindling a long lost tradition from the days of yore when they marketed Cardinal Christmas and Anker Christmas.

Dark amber brown color with a dark tan, rapidly diminishing head that leaves some sticky foamy lacing on the glass. Theres some magical quality to the aroma that all Gouden Carolus beers seem to share... a mouth-watering, brown-sugary, spicy, malty sweetness. The flavors of the Noel are similar to those of the Classic and the Grand Cru, but also present a heavy spiciness (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg), dried fruits (dates, plums, raisins, cherries), dark brown sugar, caramel, and a certain woody smokiness. This beer is very complex and interesting. The finish is somewhat astringent, and leaves behind an amazing tobacco-like, woody, smoky aftertaste. Great stuff.

Cellar temperature corked 750ml bottle: Pours a cloudy brown amber color with mega floaties and a small light tan frothy head that leaves quite a bit of lacing as it dissipates. At first, the alcohol in the aroma was dominant. Thereafter: Excellent blend of rich malts, grassy hops, cinnamon, brown sugar, cherries, plums and orange peel. Heavy body and very smooth with ample carbonation. Ending is pleasant and subtle. Give me more! : )

Bottle: Pours a dark brownish orange with a thin tan head, aroma is of rumcake, brown sugar, lemon, cherries, plums and other dark fruits, medium bodied, smooth texture, mellow carbonation, starts and ends lightly sweet with a long aftertaste. Very nicely done. This bottle is between four and five years old and aged nicely.

C&C 750. No date on the bottle, but I believe this is the current vintage. Murky dark amber with an orange tint. Dense beige head. Very complex nose - sweet, spicy fruit, estery, dates and caramel. Spicy fig and date flavors, very deep malt flavors, dark brown sugar, light anise. Heady stuff - very good!

0.75 l bottle. Reddish brown color with thick tan head. Sweet, tart, fruity, caramelly and spicy aroma with notes of licorice, anis, cinnamon and artificial candy store aroma. Sweet, tart and warming flavor with raisins and caramel. Too sweet.

Bottle from the Blue Max. Pours an amber brew with very little head. A fine example of the style. Loads of luscious exotic fruit esters from the Belgian yeasy strains. Man, what mastery. Even some funky spices tossed in there to make this even better. Rich and flavorful.

This beer was really nice on tap at Concordia ale house. Pours dark copper brown with a small of-white head. Rich caramel flavor with hints of chocolate, plum, cherry, and molasses. Sweet up front with a lightly bittered finish to keep it from being cloying. The spices in the finish show, but are slightly muted since his didnt have a ton of carbonation cutting through the thick body.

On tap at oak cafe. Poured a brown color with a small head. Aroma was of spices and also some malty and belgian yeastiness. Flavor was a little too medicinal tasting to me and it kind of overpowered the taste.
