COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For the Christmas and New Year festivities the Gouden Carolus range is now extended to include this seriously heavy strong brown ale. Het Anker are thus rekindling a long lost tradition from the days of yore when they marketed Cardinal Christmas and Anker Christmas.

Bottle shared with Edgar. Snifter. Pours a dark brown completely opaque with a light fluffy head. Great sporadic lacing. Aroma of anise, black jelly beans, dark fruits and Belgian yeasts. Taste is powerful with spices such as anise, dark fruits, dark candies, dark breads, cloves and alcohol. Medium to full in body, some carbonation. Finish is really anise. A winter warming beer for sure.

chribban (206) - SWEDEN - DEC 28, 2014
Clear, dark mahogny colored beer with a two finger high, offwhite head.

Nose: licorice, herbs, toth-paste! (I know it’s crazy), peppermint, milk and ice-cream.
Taste: Licorice, salmiak, peppermint, honey, syrup, brown sugar and sugar, sugar, sugar.... This is SWEEET!
Body: Medium body with a light, crisp, carbonation. The sweetness is overwhelming. The ABV: 10.5% is well hidden.

WTF is this? I’m not shure if I like it or hate it... Not what I expected.
Almoust like a big bottle of Jägermeister. Well I have to decide... For this money you can buy great beer - This is not great, it is strange... I don’t want strange... So conclusion - Buy something else!

Bottle, 33cl. Deep mahagony with a foamy to minimal tan head. Intense aromas of anis, dried fruits and alcohol. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Sharply sweet and bitter, with the anis off balance and overwhelming. Robust and complex, but more than a few sips and it becomes unbearable. Excellent on specific occasions.

Klar, mörkt brun-röd med ett kraftigt orange skum. Doft: Lakrits och salmiak hals tablett, salva, örter, turkiskpeppar koncentrat utan sprit. Smak: Samma som doft + bröst socker, must.

750ml bottle bottled 06/08/12. Pours a deep ruby with a thin, off white head that leaves a coating in the glass. Aroma has great notes of candies dark fruits, spice, candy sugar, and Belgian yeast. Taste is balanced. Candies raisin and dark fruits, candy sugar, and some spices. Medium body with a medium-high carbonation. Clean in the mouth with an effervescent carbonation and a dry finish. Overall a really nice brew for the holidays.

Not too much of a fan of this beer. The first couple of sips are alright but after a while the ginger-bread hint in the aroma started to annoy me incredibly. Didn’t even finish it.

Bottle from Dranken Verheyen in Poppel. The beer is dark ruby red and has a nice and large cream colored head, with a lot of CO2. The aroma is particularly complex in the nose, first show of wet grass and earth, later also smells of fine roasted malt and a lot of anise. A nice beer that is midway between alcohol warmth, spices, caramel malt and with that typical Mechelen acid trait, subtle. The finish is also warming and a little alcoholic, but that’s what make it a perfect beer for Christmas.
