Poured from a 750ml bottle into a trappist glass, dark brown with red hints no head to speak of, the aroma is sweet and candied fruits, the taste is licorice, clove, raisin, carbonation is smooth, sweet on the back end too sweet in all honesty and warm going down.

Bottle at the Essen OBER Kerstbierfestival 2013. Poured a deep mahogany with a thin off white head and lots of lace. The aroma is big liqourice with some red berry fruit and spice. The flavour is medium bitter with a strong alcohol liqourice bitter aniseed palate and a short bitter finish. I liked this because I like liqourice but if you don’t like liqourice you won’t!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours clear very dark copper brown with shaeds of ruby and plentiful, airy but stable beige head. Dark aroma of caramel malt, cinnamon and aniseed, with touches of chocolate. Sweet flavour of malt, caramel, sugar, aniseed, gingerbread spice and fruit. Warming alcohol presence. Sweet finish. A real Christmas beer. Very nice.

I tasted this little gem in the Brewtique in Macclesfield. The taste was just terrific and it lifted above the other ales on trial. It is a lovely, spicy dark brew. I think I detected a bit of cinnamon. The ale came in a 330 ml bottle. Upon pouring it into the glass, I was perhaps bit too cautious and there was not a great thick head on the ale, though I think that is as it should be. A real winter warmer. There is sweetness to the ale. Full body, thick-ish feel, flat, with long finish, I thoroughly enjoyed the ale and will definitely drink this ale again. I would also recommend my more adventurous friends to try it. The only thing to be aware of is that it is quite strong!

Dunkelbraunes BSA mit mächtig viel Schaum. Würzmalziges Aroma nach Spekulatius und Anis. Leicht spritiger Antrunk. Viel Würze, etwas Lakritze und ein langer trockener Abgang. Etwas sperrig, aber voller Aromen. Ein Bier zum nippen und genießen.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
0.33l bottle. Reddish dark brown body, light brown head. Aroma of anis, caramel and a hint of coffee. My problem with this beer is that it has a huge anis character, and I don’t like that spice at all. The beer is very well made. It has a nice sweetness, medium/big body and a cool creamy texture, but because of that bloody anis it doesn’t work for me.

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2013 Bottle from Craft Beer Base, 600 yen or so. 10.5% It pours a very dark brown with almost no head. It has a rich wine like flavor with figs, plums, spice. However, you can totally feel the alcohol, it’s somewhat boozy. Dec. 2013 10.5% from Ohtsuki Saketen. A dark mahoganey brown with a beige head & some lacing. A sweet boozy flavor of figs, candied plums & spices with lots of warming as it slides down your throat. Pretty good but boozy.

Medium sized head with strange vegetable flavor, fennel, sage or celery. Body is dark amber. Tastes also sage or fennel, with some herbal liquor aftertaste. Quite surprising for Christmas.
