COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For the Christmas and New Year festivities the Gouden Carolus range is now extended to include this seriously heavy strong brown ale. Het Anker are thus rekindling a long lost tradition from the days of yore when they marketed Cardinal Christmas and Anker Christmas.

Pours a large frothy light brown head that slowly diminishes. Lacing is fair. Body is flat and sparkling. Color is ruby to black. Aroma contains roasted malts, molasses, flowers, spices, dough, raisin, plum, forest fruits, cherry, tawny port, toffee, honey, alcohol and licorice (zoete drop, zoethout). Flavor is sweet, with light acidity and a warming alcohol and slight bitter finish. Body is medium to full, with syrupy (a bit sticky) texture and soft carbonation. Another great Christmas beer! Why couldnít it be Christmas every day?

ntense and complex nose; esters, port, dried fruit and banana. Reasonably dry and malty with lightly bitter finish. Quite hard on the spices but i liked it. Gonna cellar for some years

This beer was too much on the alcohol side and not enough on the flavor. It's profile was masked by how strong it was, overall not a big fan. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

33cl teku. Pours an abundant tanned beige head, nice, creamy very dense; brown almost black colour, ruby reflexes. Smells important and wrapping: big anice aroma, spices, dried fruits, clove, vanilla, cinammon; a complex sweet spiced simphony. Tastes dried fruits, anice, sweet licorice, brown sugar, maple syrup; medium to high sweetness, moderate to medium "licorice-ish" bitterness. Medium to full body, soft/moderate carbonation, creamy texture. Quite drinkable for being 10.5, similar in some notes to the keizer blue, extremly complex. One of the absolute best xmas ales

25/01/2015 @home, 33cl (2013) bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck. Full dark brown colour with nice tanned head. Aroma : dark fruits, caramel, spices. Taste licorice, dark fruits, caramel. Nice thick mouthfeel. Way better than last year, it was too alcoholic then, way more balanced now. Buy this and put it away for at least 1 year. Curious what it will be with one more year aging.

Strong licorice aroma, caramel maltiness Pours a murky brown color with small wispy off white head Licorice flavor with bread, caramel, a tad boozy, sweet. Cola like. Full bodied, med CO2, some alcohol warmth, lingering bready sweetness in finish It's an enjoyable sipper. Well balanced, but not all that complex. Licorice or anise that was added overpowers a bit. Would go well with a hearty dinner ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
