Commercial Description:
For the Christmas and New Year festivities the Gouden Carolus range is now extended to include this seriously heavy strong brown ale. Het Anker are thus rekindling a long lost tradition from the days of yore when they marketed Cardinal Christmas and Anker Christmas.

33cl bottle from Vinmonopolet. Best before 2012-07-22. It poured a dark red-brown colour with a medium big off-white head that settled down fast in the glass. Aroma is sweet with notes of dark fruits, banana, apples. The flavour is also sweet with notes of alcohol, dark fruits, banana and malts. It has a medium long aftertaste. This beer may not fall in the classic christmas beer category, but it is nevertheless a very nice beer for christmas or any other season.

Semi-transparent mahogany, light beige head. Lots of bread and yeast in the nose, minor spice and a little fig. Lots of creamy nut in the flavor, some caramel, also some yeast and an undercurrent of toffee syrup. Very soft palate. Overall, quite pleasant. The alcohol is controlled and the flavor mellow, yet complex and malty enough to draw one back.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown, hazy color with an extremely large, frothy brown head. Lacing is ridiculously strong. Aromas of banana, bread, roasty malts, and light raisin. Palate is a full body, soft carbonation, thick feel, and a long finish. Taste is medium bitter, flavors of banana and raisin abound, and a nice light sweetness finish. Very good holiday beer, one that I plan to enjoy countless times until Christmas.

Poured a very dark brown with small tan head. Smell of burnt toffee, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, coffee, and a hint of cinnamon and clove. Taste is burnt sugar and toffee, dark plums, walnuts, raisins, with a pleasant bitter hop finish. The 10.5% alcohol is apparent. Think on the palate, fizzy and lasting. Sweet and nice! Merry Christmas!

Dark red with a beige head. Aroma: Complex, dark fruit, chocolate, caramel, banana, alc, spices, a little hops. Taste: sweet, lots of caramel, dark fruit, lots of alc, a little sourness, a little bitterness in the end. Very belgian and very christmassy. A good combination for a cold winters night.
