Commercial Description:
For the Christmas and New Year festivities the Gouden Carolus range is now extended to include this seriously heavy strong brown ale. Het Anker are thus rekindling a long lost tradition from the days of yore when they marketed Cardinal Christmas and Anker Christmas.

2003: Dark ruby, mahogany color with a huge puffy head. This bottle is relentless and is always giving me good head and lacing. Even with the bottle conditioning I never encountered a yeast layer at the bottom, happy of that. The aroma is has some traditional belgian noses, nothing outstanding, a little fruity. The flavor is extrememly well rounded; alcohol hidden, malt is semi sweet and flavorful while the hops balance everything else. On the negative front this seems a bit metallic to me. Finishes very pleasent though and I keep coming back for more. Great BSA Winter for Buck Dich!

Draught at The Rover, Gothenburg. Dark amber with a fine head. Fresh and spicy aroma and a sweetish flavour with toffee. A bit thin though. Re-rate christmas 04. It’s now a year older and has matured a lot. Really full aroma; a bit aceton and chocolate. A lot of raisin in the flavour.

Dark brown body, short to medium beige head. Smells like dark fruit, alcohol, raisins, caramel. Warm and sweet flavours with an emphasis on licorice and asinette. Body is robust. It’s a rich and strong winter ale but I would have appreciated a litlle more balance, with some added hoppiness and bitterness, especially in the finish.

(sampled draught at Akkurat, Stockholm) Mahogny brown with ruby notes. Dense tan head. Fruity, sweet and deep aroma of figs, plums, pears and black pepper. Thick malty flavour of figs, fresh tobacco, dried plums with a slightly peppery alcoholic note. Long warming finish with strong notes of belgian chocolate and figs. Oily, thick mouthfeel.

2002 bottle. Aroma of raisins, plums and malts. Sweet up front with some dry fruity flavors. Clean slightly spiced and warming finish. Good stuff. re-rate. Unknown vintage. Mahogany color with a beautiful head. Fruity and spicy aroma, melon, plum and corriander. Lightly sweet, some bready dough flavor. Some fruit notes and bubblegum like sweetness in the finish.

Hazy brown hue with small head and okay lace. Nice big floral aroma of dried fruit, sweet malts, spicy, and heavy yeast esters. The taste starts swet and spicy with a light bitter finish and citric undertones. Medium-bodied with a slight bite on the lively palate. Wow, what a nice Christmas brew. Pick one up for yourself and your best friends.

Almost opaque brown color with a small tan head. Decent lacing. Mild aroma...malty sweet and fruity. Flavor is sweet...very sweet. Earthy. Body is rich and thick. Spicy aftertaste as well. The 10% is well masked. Pretty darn good.

Bottle from the Blue Max. Pours an amber brew with very little head. A fine example of the style. Loads of luscious exotic fruit esters from the Belgian yeasy strains. Man, what mastery. Even some funky spices tossed in there to make this even better. Rich and flavorful.
