In spite of modern brewing technology, this beer is brewed according to ancient traditions. It unites, now as in the past, the best products of our soil: rich barley and fine hops.. It's refined character, with a pure and rich taste, will captivate you. It is matured at length in cellar and bottle, and is guaranteed to be brewed only from pale malts. It is traditionally top-fermented and is 100% pure. The Gouden Carolus Triple has a unique colour and a full flavour due to its well-balanced hopping. To properly savour the Golden Carolus “Triple”, pour slowly in one movement leaving the yeast deposit in the bottle. This beer may be served cool but not chilled: 7-8°C is recommended. In 2002 this beer won the Gold Award in the World Beer Cup, San Diego, USA in the “Triple” category.

The tripel in this series, with an initially rather thick, cream white, dense, stable and moussy head leaving coarse lacing on the edge of the glass; colour a deep golden blonde with a slightly orangey hue, hazy from the start. Aroma richly perfumed, strong and seductive, with impressions of fresh honey, mango, vanilla pudding, lots of sweet banana and banana liqueur, overripe peach, white bread, fresh orange peel, sweet cider, lemon zest, mint, cake, red apple, aniseed, lavender, some caramel, white pepper, cognac. Taste begins with sweet exotic fruits, banana, orange, mango, kiwi; rather strong, minerally carbonation, fluffy and smooth mouthfeel, full and malty, sweet, bready, yeasty, with retronasal aromatic spiciness (spices are clearly effectively used here), a tad sugary but nowhere cloying, very honeyish, finishing with dryish but gentle, herbal hops and brandy-like warming alcohol, clearly present and just a little bit wry but not too obtrusive, while the initial sugary and malty sweetness remains, as well as the drying spiciness. Perhaps too sweet and spicy for some (like most of their other beers, I guess) and in that sense not your average tripel, but I like this a lot, since it distinguishes itself from the vast lake of interchangeable tripels in this country. Elegant yet assertive and a true classic in the style, an honourable lady, as it were.

Flasa. Zlata farba, biela pena. Kvasnicova aroma, jemne citrus a korenie. V chuti sladkost a jemne ako sour pivo.

Bottle. Aroma coriander, flowery. Hazy yellow colour, stable head. Taste coriander, honeyish, spicy. Finishes spicy and lightly sour. A bit sharp, but overall alcohol hidden well. Good trippel.

Bottle by Fajry, many thanks. Pours bit hazy golden color, white head. Aroma is yeasty, citrusy, fruity, belgian spice. Taste is medium sweet, lightly sour, yeasty, lemon, spicy.

On nitro tap at the Porter Bar (ATL). Served in a tulip. Excellent fruity aroma. Good flavor but doesn’t quite keep up with the quality of the aroma. It’s a bit too sweet until the mildly bitter and tart finish. Light body. Little noticeable effect of the nitro.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2014 330ml bottle poured in a chalice. Lovely Tripel, no doubt. A: Pours a pale yellow color. Hazy. Head is white, fluffy and simply HUGE. Remains forever. Disappears leaving many many lacings in the glass. The foam reminded me a Duvel S: Smell is just perfect. A bomb of honey, pepper, clove, vanilla, fruits (apple and pear) and a bit of citric zest. Sweet. Malts, the traditional Belgium yeasts and flowery hops are also very noticed T: Follows the nose, however much less sweet than expected which is a very positive point here. Taste is dry. Still can feel the malts, honey, cloves, vanilla and fruits. Delicious hops and Belgium yeasts M: Heavy and dense body. Medium carbonation D: Not bad. Carolus beers are usually very intense in the way that I prefer to appreciate them with moderation [ BA Review @ 10/29/2010 ]

Bottle. Slightly hazy, very much like a Duvel with large foam head (foam is denser though). Duvel returns in the aroma. Nice sourness with relatively high acidity, but a fruity undertone: gentle mix of lychee, pineapple, ementhaler cheese from the yeast. Nice. Taste, no surprise again Duvel-like. In the middle a fruity tone is clearly discernible, which spoils the taste a little for me. Lychee, some bitter lemon (in the aftertaste as well). Nonetheless, a good fresh and fruity summer alternative to the Moortgat classic.

On bottle from Vinmonopolet Norway, on order. Hazy golden orange color, good foam. Quite fruity aromas, some citrus, light honey and subtle yeast influence : medium aroma intensity. Medium body & complexity. Ok bitterness, well balanced. Very enjoyable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Couleur jaune-orange trouble, forte mousse blanche. Nez fruité, mandarine, notes d’épices. Gout fruité, malté, épicé, alcool, note houblon et poivre, bien cremeuse en bouche, et bonne amertume en fin de bouche.
