4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Not as fruity, sweet, or complex as some others of the style, but still a very good beer. Substantial body. There is a thick white head that lasts so long I was getting impatient to drink the cloudy, dark orange beer. Powerful aroma of sweet fruit. Flavor is primarily sweet with a bit of the alcohol coming through. Sweet malt in the finish. This can’t stand up to Tripel Karmeliet but is vastly superior to Westmalle and many others.

Bottle. Hazy golden colour with a big white head. Fruity, floral and yeasty aroma. Taste is sweet, fruity, malty, spicey with a light and long bitter finish. Fairly high carbonation, with a foamy-ish mouthfeel. This is very nice.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Murky yellow in colour, tall lasting white head, nice lace. The aroma was soapy, floral, with lots of candy sweetness and yeast. The flavour was very floral, lots of yeast, noticeable alcohol, apples and peaches. Dry mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes with a medium lingering bitterness. A young sample, perhaps this needs more time.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
One of my favourite breweries and one of my favourite styles, so there may be a little bias in this rating. Happened to be a wonderful brew that seems to stand alone from this brewers big dark ales. Tasted from the bottle and poured into its own gold rimmed chalice, cool and not cold. A big dense and creamy white head formed atop a hazy orange-gold body. Head lasted the distance and left a web of lace down the glass. Intense, treacly sweet candi sugar nose with a strong balance of pears, apples and zesty oranges. Only a light amount of yeast and alcohol spice, peppery, was detectable and this came through long into drinking. In the mouth a blend of zesty fruity esters, prickly, medicinal and mellowing alcohol and yeast spice, and sweet candi and vanilla were amplified by the high carbonation that moved things along quickly. Light fresh herb flavours and leafy hops come in in the back and dry out with the alcohol to follow through to a long warming and reasonably smooth swallow. Light in body and filling in the stomach, this was a lovely beer, perfect for the winter, that came highly recommended by the boys at the Int’l beer shop, W. Leederville, and for that I thank them. Lovely!!! (33cL, BBE 01/07)
