In spite of modern brewing technology, this beer is brewed according to ancient traditions. It unites, now as in the past, the best products of our soil: rich barley and fine hops.. It's refined character, with a pure and rich taste, will captivate you. It is matured at length in cellar and bottle, and is guaranteed to be brewed only from pale malts. It is traditionally top-fermented and is 100% pure. The Gouden Carolus Triple has a unique colour and a full flavour due to its well-balanced hopping. To properly savour the Golden Carolus “Triple”, pour slowly in one movement leaving the yeast deposit in the bottle. This beer may be served cool but not chilled: 7-8°C is recommended. In 2002 this beer won the Gold Award in the World Beer Cup, San Diego, USA in the “Triple” category.

Slightly clouded amber hue with decent white creamy head. Orange and yeast nose which is also present in the flavour with malt amd other fruity hints. Not a great deal of after taste, fairly short in the finish.

Aroma starts with quite a sour smell. Combination of malt, citrus and wheat. Appears golden and clear. Tastes lightly sweet and lightly sour in the finish to me. It’s more refreshing than the alcohol percentage suggests. Palate could have been better: a bit too fizzy. Decent overall.

Others have reviewed the taste better, and I don’t particularly get that much out of it because of the alcohol masking the taste a lot. This is one of those beers I would love to love more. Without wanting to diss it, it sometimes feels like this beer is appreciated for the fact that it has momentum instead of having momentum because it’s so good. There’s just no getting around Gouden Carolus the last 2 years or so. The tripel seems to get very alcohol’y and agressive after a while, that feeling where you get slightly annoyed and confused after the first few sips have settled. It’s still a solid beer, but living in Belgium that means it ranks with a lot of other good strong blondes, so it misses punch. That does mean it’s pretty balanced though, instead of being another one of those modern beers with momentum gained by the original or hoppy flavors. Just to be clear, the brown one is a whole different story and one of the best beers out there.

Pours a nice yellow haze with a lot of foam. Feels fresh on the first taste but afterwards turns a bit sour/bitter.
