Blind tasting @ Sk8vikings Porter / Stout tasting #11 Gourmet Bryggeriet Grain Barrel Porter <special tap in swing bottle>. Poured light brown fizzy head. Pitch black color. Aroma was quit complex, vinous and pleasant with notes of liquorish, chocolate, hint of coffee, and lots of roasted malt. Over the palate hint of berries and fruity and again this lovely chocolate feel. Very full bodied with a flat carbonation and thick texture. Moderated to heavy sweet with good counter bitterness to balance this impressive Imperial Stout. Lingering burned malty and light alcoholic finish. Lovely.

(Hand bottle 100 cl) Courtesy of Sahlholdt. Cloudy, opaque black with a basically absent head. Very vinous and alcoholic aroma. Pleasant and smooth mouthfeel, a little low in carbonation. Slightly tart, fruity notes and some malt bitterness before a very warming almost Slivovitz-like alcohol burn in the finish. Very interesting. This really shows what brewmaster Mike Murphy is capable of when let a little loose. Good going. 070907
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Skinnyviking (5712) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - JAN 13, 2008
At the prisice of DKK 169.00 (approix. USD 33.50)) less the discount I get as a Danish Bee Enthusiast, I expect something quite extraordinary. Beer is expensive in Denmark. Do I get value for the money spent ? Her is my estimate. Bottle. Medium high brown creamy head (OK). Pitch black body body (Really black, no light through). Intensive coffee cocoa flavor (good but not especially good). Smooth soft mild round coffee flavor with a touch of cocoa and evan e bit of liquorice. Low carbonation and a long bittersweet aftertaste. The high alcohol percentage is very well hidden. Mates: Very good but way too expensive.
