Had this one on tap in a sampler flight. Dark, near black-ish brown. Malty nose. Rich tan head. Sweet, malty palate, and opverall complex. Enjoyable.

It has the looks of a Pepsi with a smaller head. The aroma is rich and malty with a light touch of toffee complemented by some dark dried fruits. A hit of roasted malt and dark caramel is added to the flavor. The finish is a burnt, nutty bitterness. Pretty decent brew.

Gasspasser’s waitress must have been new because Spencer (my usual Sunday bartender) had been hyping this beer since early last fall telling me I had to try it because last year’s was so fantastic. It was served a well-hazed mahogany with a thickish tan film & halo. First whiffs found vinegar and alcohol, but that aroma dissipated to reveal concord grape, honey and raisin. Flavor found interesting fruity malts, mostly raisin and prune. Rather heavy with a syrupy mouth and a chalky finish. Good, but my expectations were really high. (On the other hand, Govnor’s <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/govnors-public-h exceeded all expectations.)

Interesting brew, the waitress said that this was the first time that this style was made at Govnor’s. Served in a wide mouth pilsner glass. Dark brown with some grey color, thin to non-existant head that left some lacing on the sides. The nose is full of malts and grain, little bits of raisins or brown sugar. In the commercial description it was listed something like "lots of hops at 34 IBU" but I was not detecting any hops in the nose or taste. The taste was just about he same, more bitter but smooth and not offensive. There was more of what is called ’dark fruit’ in the taste but overall the strong and clean malts and grains in the taste. Dinkable and interesting.
