2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 SubstanceT (1092) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - JUL 23, 2006
UPDATED: JUL 26, 2006 On tap at the brewery. From old notes that I have found. To me it was a lot like the other golden kind of beers that they have. Thin, rather unimpressive. Copper in the taste.

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2006 Kolsch? I would say No. Looks fine, gold with a frothy white head. But the aroma is a yeasty concoction with floral hops and a bit of sweet malts seeping through. The flavor is of sweet, bready malt with hints of wheat, some bitter hops, and a splash of lemon. I agree with frankenkitty’s assessment that this is more akin to a Golden Ale. We must have had a different batch than that from which StewardofGondor rated.

Flowery hops aroma with hints of bitterness to come. Flat palate. Sweet but nt cloyingly so. Citrus notes, weirdly intruding. Thin bodied.

I assumed I was going to have to enter this beer into the database and was hard-pressed to categorize this beer as a Kölsch, so <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Forums/Topic-35596.ht posted to the forum asking about thoughts regarding the style. After reading the feedback, I would be more inclined to call this beer a Golden Ale. It’s obvious by the beer’s name that the brewer knew they had a hybrid and I really don’t feel that it fits into such a narrow profile as Kölsch implies.
Hazy golden/copper with a tiny, white head that was quickly a film that left touches of lace. Bready yeast aromas with full malts reminiscent of an "Irish Red". Flavor was unimpressive with a finish flavor of pear and orange. Light bitterness in a clean finish.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 StewardofGondor (1934) - Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 18, 2005
Bright yellow gold with a big centered splotch for the head. Aroma consists of potatoes, burlap, crisp lemons and olive oil. Briskness of pils malt is apparent on the palate, yet there’s no acidic twang to distract (this is a very good thing.) Maintains a moderate hop profile and controlled carbonation. A fine summer quaff.
