3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 frankenkitty (1958) - Oak Lawn, USA - JUN 13, 2005
Served with a lemon by accident, but promptly removed by our server. This was darker than other Hefes I’ve tried recently... amber/wheat with a tiny-particulate haze. Banana in the aroma and finish, with mild bitterness and slight sourness in flavor. Alcohol detected in the sinuses afterwards. Medium bodied and a little tinny.

On tap at the Govnors Brew Pub. Served with a slice of lemon. Poured a medium and hazy golden color with a small sized white head. Aromas of cloves and wheat. Even with the lemon slice (that I quickly removed) I got no citrus. Tastes of wheat, cloves, citrus, and bananas.

Had this one on tap in a sampler flight. I’m not a big fan of hefeweizens. This one is wheaty with a lemony nose. Surprisingly mild flavor with some bready taste. Not bad.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 gws57 (1234) - Saint Charles, Illinois, USA - JUL 15, 2006
Had this one on draught at Brew Daze 2006. Served with a lemon. Hazy, dark yellow pour with a very thick white head, pronounced banana but not a whole lot else. Kind of watery. Not terrible.

Tap at brewery. Pours nice and cloudy with a heavy clove and banana aroma. Flavor is lemony bubblegum and clove. Palate is a bit thin; doesn’t spread the flavor well enough. Decent. Who knew the Irish made German Hefes?

i actually thought this was the best hefeweizen i had all day in a field of about 10 at the barrington brewfest. balanced and flavorful all the way through the flavor profile. a bit light in color.

Citrus lemon cut hay, grassy notes, banana esters, etc. Very thin bodied detracts points.

Cloudy orange, solid in density with no movement or head. Aroma is fairly reserved, but delving deeper reveals bananas, cloves and orange-vanilla crème. Decent effervescence and crisp citric flavoring accents. A little tart, but overlaid nicely with ripe bananas and orange dream like creaminess. One of the better brewpub renditions of the style.
