Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured dark brown color with a large frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Moderate spice and dark chocolate aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium dark chocolate flavor with a medium dry dark sweet finish of moderated duration. Refreshing complex beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Walt (2449) - Austin, Texas, USA - MAR 31, 2008
Pour is opaque brownish black with a dense tan head...smell is lightly woody and hints of sour with hints of fruity earthyness...Mike is right, it does smell like JPs Madrugada Obscura a little...taste is roasty with chocolate and yeast with some lightly funky wood notes...mouthfeel is very thin and very carbonated...finish is slightly dry...
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 BBB63 (5411) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - MAR 18, 2008
RATING #3500 !
Big flip top bottle and served in my big Karmeliet glass: Black with a tan frothy head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of bakers chocolate, prune, fig, grape bubblegum, light heather and herbs and a distinct brettanomyces twang (on purpose methinks). The taste is twangy and fruity with a moderate sourness all about the palate. Chalky chocolate and carob nuggets on the finish. The mouth feel is far too thin for the flavor profile. Well it is different for sure, reminds me a bit of Jolly Pumpkin sour stout in a dark beer with bretty and lacto overtone. Not worth the money as is the case of so many of the big bottle Italian imports.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Christian (9697) - Odense, DENMARK - MAR 16, 2008
Jet black with a lasting tan head. Chocolate, dark fruits and brettanomyces in the aroma. Dry, with a bit of chocolate and some brett in the flavour - and the brett doesn’t seem like a good idea at all.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 KimJohansen (10342) - Frederiksberg C, DENMARK - MAR 16, 2008
Dark brown with medium beige head. Sweet and sour aroma with chocolate notes. Spicy flavor with chocolate notes. Strange beer...
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 thornecb (3645) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 9, 2008
Pours dark brown into a snifter. Off-white head quickly subsides to hug rim. Sharp, sour chocolate aromas. Smooth with upfront aspirin and sour summer fruit. Lasting, dry cocoa finish.
1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 Ibrew2or3 (5777) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - FEB 21, 2008
Courtesy of Degarth. Pours a three finger light brown head with dark body. The aroma is pure sour ale with hints of dark fruit and not a whole lot else. The taste has a blanket of sourness covering over a faint sense of dark roasted malts. Sourness rides into the finish but doesn’t actually become over whelming. I’m guessing something is wrong with the bottle.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Quake1028 (633) - Tampa, Florida, USA - FEB 18, 2008
Courtesy of Degarth. All of us agreed that this bottle was most likely infected. The last time I rated an infected beer, I didn’t do so well so I will just leave it at that. Would love to have another go at this to see what a better sampling is all about.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 skoisirius (1153) - Earth, Washington, USA - FEB 14, 2008
Large bottle (can’t remember the size), thanks to T-Bot! Pours a dark murky brown color with somewhat of a light brownish head. Nose smells of deep carob reminding me somehow of grapes. Flavor is of the same with hints at light cacao and somewhat of a sweet gummy flavor intertwined. Dark plum notes also exist. Small hint of funk in there, but it works. A bit thin on the body for something like this...but overall, these very different flavors somehow meld well together. Check it if you have the chance!!
