Bottle (Pilsen 2008): Very dark-amber coloured, small beige head; cacao, almonds and nuts in the nose; quite full sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied; Chocolate and almonds, again in the fruity-malty finish. Interesting brew......

Dark brown with a thin lid of milk tan bubbles. Charred fruit, sweet aromatic woods, dark cherries, dates and a hint of creosote in the nose. Interesting, but not overly pleasant. smoke and ashes fill the mouth from the start. Some mild vinous qualities, I happen to be reminded of an old bottle of cab with a dry cork. Some nibs, elderberries and choke cherries also creep in. LIght soft palate. Very earthy and course.

Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured dark brown color with a large frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Moderate spice and dark chocolate aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium dark chocolate flavor with a medium dry dark sweet finish of moderated duration. Refreshing complex beer.

Bottle. Dark brown with a beige head. Aromas are malty with chocolate and coffee. Spicy and herbal with some alcohol. Flavours are chocolate malts with berries. Spicy with warming alcohol. A touch on the gritty side but still decent.

Jet black with a lasting tan head. Chocolate, dark fruits and brettanomyces in the aroma. Dry, with a bit of chocolate and some brett in the flavour - and the brett doesn’t seem like a good idea at all.

A deep dark ale with reddish hues and thick creamy moka head. A pleasant aroma of chocolate, espresso coffee, and light cherries. In mouth, a nice sweet moka chocolate malt with cherry blossoms, smooth and silky, vanilla and nutella. Mamamia! On tap at Max’s on Broadway, Dec. 29 2008.

Bottle from Liquid Solutions. Pours very dark brown with a very large tan head. Aromas of chocolate and some sort of fruit. Full bodied with rather smooth carbonation. Flavor is dark chocolate, dark roasted malt, and something like plummy. Finish is quite unbitter, except for chocolate. Seems to be a little vinous. Quite interesting and good.
