4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber, beautiful packaging. Aroma is big, and lush: malt, sweet chestnut, baker’s chocolate, and nutella. Mouthfeel is medium in fullness, with good creaminess and a lightly dry finish. Flavor bursts forward with chocolate and chestnut, perfect harmony. There is a depth of malt flavor achieved here that I find particularly special. Great beer overall.

Hazy amber with big, foamy, fine bubble, head / Nose of orchard fruit, chrysanthemum, and brett / Medium body, fine carbonation, good balance tending towards hoppy dry, with excellent finish / Bretty flavors, with a big barnyard kick, with elegant and subdued, flavors of apples, sour cherries, banana, oak, caramel, chrysanthemum, manure, and a hint of chestnut / An excellent Belgian ale.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted on draft at the Purple Pig. Pours cloudy dark amber with a thick off-white head that recedes to lace. Nose of banana bread and malt with hazelnuts as an afterthought. Flavor is caramel malt with nice bitterness and a slightly sour note. The hazelnuts really come through strongly on the palate. The body is fairly full with average carbonation and a long finish that reminds me of Christmas.

Bottle. Reddish brown beer with a light head. The aroma is fruity and mildly sour, and the flavour is yeasty, bitter and quite rich. Overall a reasonable beer,

(Bottled, 0.75l) Clear dark copper with a small, fading head. Nutty aroma of caramel and some alcohol, dried fruit. Flavor is caramely-nutty-malty with low bitterness and some dried fruitiness. Medium to full body, lowish carbonation. Nicely balanced and smooth brew, feels like an ale.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUL 12, 2010 Bottle, once at a tasting and once at Swift. Pours a cloudy, light brown with a substantial white head. Nose is all spice and sweet malt. Flavor is dynamic and mostly sweet. Lots of honey and chestnut, along with some less discernable spices. Nice and pretty unique.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle was a gusher and lost about 40%. Poured with large (!) tan head and good lace. Color is a hazy medium amber. Aroma is a slightly sour yeasty malty spicey and bitter belgian style. Flavor’s about the same. Decent body and carbonation (!) Slightly boozy at the end. Much better than the other Italian Chestnut beer I just had. But that’s not saying a lot.
