3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JorisPPattyn (6746) - Antwerpen, - DEC 10, 2006
Red-amber beer with small transparant head. Toffee, caramel, plywood, and a few phenols in the nose. Leafy, shrubbery flavours, sweet and full bodied, obviously influenced by the chestnuts. Slick, nearly viscous, warming sensations. Good strong ale, chestnuts help without imposing themselves; a bit pity about the nose.

Notes from my iPhone. On tap @ Purple Pig. Slightly hazy golden amber with a very wispy fine head. Aroma is of sweet cereal, lightly spicy, and with more of a buckwheat aroma than anything nutty. Creamy soft mouthfeel, flavours of dates, light spice, vague fruit (quince maybe?). Again, nothing distinctly nutty, but a pleasant ale nonetheless.

Draught at Churchkey. Walnut colored pour. Nose and flavor are marked with present but uninteresting chestnut, sweet spice, caramel, and plum-like dark fruit. Not bad, but ehhh not exciting.
