beastiefan2k (1108), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Jul 19, 2008 A very nice surprise of a beer. Shared by a friend with others at the Gingerman. A sour nose with butter-y sweet oak sugar. Definitely comes of as a high gravity sour. Taste has some more calming factors. I get a lot of what I can attach to maybe chestnuts. Its earthy and lightly sour as well. A bit ashy but not roasty. Some nice and original aspects.
Mes_and_Sim (4355), Highgate, Greater London, England Aug 24, 2008 A Mes rate: bottle at GBBF. A very attractive amber colour with a thin but stable white head. Sweet and spicy with notes of caramel and nuts. Can hardly detect any alcohol in the mouth given the reasonably high abv. Bittersweet finish that is quite roasty and eventual alcohol warmth. Skinnyviking (2635), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 15, 2008 Bottle. High creamy and lasting off-white head. Hazy dark red brown body. Good malty, caramel nut aroma. Relatively sweet flavor of caramel and nuts with just a bit of bitterness which is not staying for long though. Alcohol well hidden. Low carbonation. oh6gdx (5901), Vaasa, Finland Aug 8, 2008 Bottled. Amber murky colour with mediumsized beige head. Aroma is caramel, sweet wood and some mild herbal notesas well as alcohol. Flavour is alcohol, caramel, candy and some mild spicing as well as rye. KimJohansen (3260), Copenhagen V, Denmark Aug 5, 2008 Cloudy dark amber with medium off white head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, rye bread and caramel. Flavor likewise with a sweet boozy end. PilsnerPeter (1408), Flushing, New York, USA Aug 1, 2008 Bottle generously shared at Ginger Man: Amber pour with a creamy off white dense head. Elegant aroma. Tart notes, mildly vinous with oak, mild leather and sweet fruit notes. Creamy body. The flavor has a great blend of sweet and tart. Smooth mild oak presence with some honey and plum notes. Seems to have a brett character, but I think it’s just the oak presence. Balanced and damn tasty.
