tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 20, 2011
Tasted this in the Saltcot, Saltcoats (JDW) in August 2009. Cask, handpump dispense. Crystal clear orange amber with a thick creamy off white head. Looked ok but oh the smell. Strong and intense rotten seaweed note in the overpowering aroma and it didn’t come from the nearby shoreline. Thin mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a weak insipid note of caramel and boiled cabbage. Slight hop resin note in the short bitter aftertaste. Finish is weak bitter sweet with seaweed once again to the fore. One to avoid.

Cask Conditioned Handpump Briar Rose Birmingham. A golden beer with a white head. The aroma is thin and a bit yeasty as if edging towards the bottom of the barrel. The taste is very bitter, but again a bit washed out.
