COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Local legends aren’t just born, they’re brewed. And no beer in the Midwest has a grander brewing tradition than Grain Belt. For over 100 years, Grain Belt has been the beer that fathers have passed on to sons and friends have passed amongst each other at local bars and watering holes. It is a beer with tradition that spans generations. Which is why it has become legendary–both here and across the country.

In the 1940s, around the same time Grain Belt built its famous bottle cap sign overlooking the Mississippi River in Northeast Minneapolis, they introduced a “Beer of Exceptional Quality”–Premium. With its crisp, unique flavor, Premium quickly became the flagship of the Grain Belt brand. And still is to this day.

Although the Grain Belt Premium recipe has changed hands over the years, one thing has remained the same–its legendary unique taste. And now that Premium is in the capable hands of a brewery with an even longer tradition than Grain Belt–the August Schell Brewery–may you rest assured that the flavor and heritage of Premium will live on forever.

So as a local legendary beer, we raise a glass to all the people, places and things that make the Midwest such a rich and unique place to live. Here’s to you!

This was the beer that got me into drinking beer back when I was young. Now that I am older my palate has changed and I don’t really care for this beer. But once in a while if someone has one I will drink it. Don’t go out of your way to get it.

Pour is golden yellow with a froathy white head. Aroma is sweet malt and hay, and corn. Taste is crisp sweet and malty and grain. Palate is thin crisp and chaulky. This is by far my favorite cheap beer.

Eells (64) - Minnesota, USA - MAY 11, 2010
A plain smooth domestic style lager. More of a nostalgic beer for Minnesotan’s. I’ll drink it on a hot summer day, but i think it finishes a little pissy. But I’d rather buy this than those commercial domestics from Milwaukee or St Louis.

This beer isn’t fancy, so if you go in comparing it to the latest triple hopped, extra malted, $20/six pack you’re going to be disappointed. This is an inexpensive lawnmowing beer that actually tastes pretty good. Taste wise, its very light, there’s a hint of sweetness that doesn’t build to be cloying. But its not heavy and its a good summer beer.

Malty, over-carbonated, zero depth of flavor whatsoever. Little bit of corn aroma. If this beer was from a big macro it would be rated one of the worst ever, but I think people treat it more affectionately as it’s from an old local brewery.

My go to cheap beer, golden in color, aroma is cereal and taste is a bit sweet and fruity with some bread and cereal in the end. An okay lager that does that job when you want lots of beer!

Can. Pours a very pale and clear gold with a medium white head that dissipates very quickly. Aroma has notes of sweet grains and a bit of a skunky notes. Flavor is a bit weak but sweet grain notes are present throughout.

   AROMA 5/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 4/10   PALATE 2/5   OVERALL 11/20
humulushound (242) - British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 1, 2010
On tap at a hotel in Bloomington Minnesota. Golden yellow color, fizzy, minimal white head. Aroma of sweet grain and corn, light grassy hops. Taste is dominated by buttery corn, light bitterness. Body is light, thin, but refreshing and very drinkable. This is not half bad as far as pale lagers go.
