COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Local legends aren’t just born, they’re brewed. And no beer in the Midwest has a grander brewing tradition than Grain Belt. For over 100 years, Grain Belt has been the beer that fathers have passed on to sons and friends have passed amongst each other at local bars and watering holes. It is a beer with tradition that spans generations. Which is why it has become legendary–both here and across the country.

In the 1940s, around the same time Grain Belt built its famous bottle cap sign overlooking the Mississippi River in Northeast Minneapolis, they introduced a “Beer of Exceptional Quality”–Premium. With its crisp, unique flavor, Premium quickly became the flagship of the Grain Belt brand. And still is to this day.

Although the Grain Belt Premium recipe has changed hands over the years, one thing has remained the same–its legendary unique taste. And now that Premium is in the capable hands of a brewery with an even longer tradition than Grain Belt–the August Schell Brewery–may you rest assured that the flavor and heritage of Premium will live on forever.

So as a local legendary beer, we raise a glass to all the people, places and things that make the Midwest such a rich and unique place to live. Here’s to you!

It tastes great, doesn’t cost much and it is locally brewed (relative to me). That is a winning combination in my book. A great beer for a hot summer day.

Not Blatz but a damned close beer to that imperial king!!! Grain Belt used to be owned by Heileman, who peddled it for $4.50 a case (circa 1989). What a clever gimmick! Putting one of the finest brews into hardtop cases and hooking generations of ca$h strapped college kids. Man oh man, I wish I could get this stuff in my neighborhood. Blatz yes! Grain Belt yes!

Pours, perfect yellow with a 2 finger creamy slightly off white head that has decent retention. Aroma is of grainy malt, dried biscuits, toast and a hint of dried citrus peel. Flavor is slightly sweet grainy malt, sweet and slightly toasty with a slightly metallic planty hop finish. Not bad at all, the fact that it comes in a crystal crear bottle is a little disconcerting though.

Premium pretty much replaced water for me a few years ago. Great beer to get from the tap at bars. Light body goes down super easy. $5 for a pitcher here in Wisconsin, and it’s honestly much better than most you can get for more money.

12oz bottle. Pours a bright, clear golden color; fluffy white head with decent retention and fine-bubbled lacing; solid-looking pour. Dry and crisp aroma, showing some mineral bitterness, crackers, and sweet fruity malts; very nicely dry overall; crisp and clean. Very solid, well-carbonated, crisp and dry presence in the mouth: toasty malts, light fruitiness, and zesty, almost spicy, mineral hop bitterness; especially drinkable and crisp overall, this tastes more like a well-made pilsener than anything; both Ali and I really enjoyed this one. Even the alleged swill in MN is excellent. Medium finish: crisp overall, showing dry toasty malts, minerals, and just a touch of floral notes and sugar; again, nicely dry and crisp throughout.

Bottle. Sweet malty aroma. Taste matches the aroma. Very smooth. One of my favorite in this catergory. Great beer to drink around the campfire with smores.

Yellow with a medium white head. Aroma of corn and sweet malt. Taste of corn and sweet malt. Thin, watery, over carbonated, overly malted and astringent. Better than a miller or bud, but then isn’t everything.
