COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Local legends aren’t just born, they’re brewed. And no beer in the Midwest has a grander brewing tradition than Grain Belt. For over 100 years, Grain Belt has been the beer that fathers have passed on to sons and friends have passed amongst each other at local bars and watering holes. It is a beer with tradition that spans generations. Which is why it has become legendary–both here and across the country.

In the 1940s, around the same time Grain Belt built its famous bottle cap sign overlooking the Mississippi River in Northeast Minneapolis, they introduced a “Beer of Exceptional Quality”–Premium. With its crisp, unique flavor, Premium quickly became the flagship of the Grain Belt brand. And still is to this day.

Although the Grain Belt Premium recipe has changed hands over the years, one thing has remained the same–its legendary unique taste. And now that Premium is in the capable hands of a brewery with an even longer tradition than Grain Belt–the August Schell Brewery–may you rest assured that the flavor and heritage of Premium will live on forever.

So as a local legendary beer, we raise a glass to all the people, places and things that make the Midwest such a rich and unique place to live. Here’s to you!

Beer pours a beautiful sparkling golden color capped by a generous white foamy head. Nose is mostly grain and alcohol. Fairly creamy mouthfeel with good carbonation. Taste is of grain with a clean crisp finish. A nice everyday lager that pairs well with a wide variety of foods, including summer sausage, cheese and crackers, burgers, brats or pizza. An icon in MN and pockets of WI.

Not bad. Not tremendously different from other American lagers I’m familiar with, but this beer offers an exceptionally clean (probably means tasteless) taste, and a clean (but not really watery) mouthfeel. It comes in a clear bottle, but is definitely not skunky. Appearance is yellow, brilliant, and fizzy, with a think and soapy head. Not bad.

Pretty solid for the style... and the price. Aroma is corny, grainy, and lightly fruity (apples, etc.) and the flavor is extremely light with not too many flaws apparent. Refreshing and drinkable. High carbonation and a color attributable to the style.

The last of the old-school Minnesota lagers, but with a clean, fresh and none-too-bitter flavor that hearkens back to the days before fern bars and microbrews. To be fair, this stuff is better than a lot of ’pilsner’ types around the world, and as local lagers are an increasingly endangered species in the US, this stuff is worth drinking just to keep it around.

Bottle, pours a clear, pale gold body with white foam head. Aroma of sweet malts and grains. Flavor is similar, albiet a bit stronger than the aroma. Medium-bodied with a smooth, slightly oily mouthfeel. Sweet grain finish with a slightly sweet and sticky aftertaste. A staple of mine during the summer.

Golden color like a typical american lager. Smells a little fruity but otherwise not much to the aroma. The taste is also quite fruity, which I didn’t really like. Overall not one of my favorites.

Poured a ridiculously clear golden colour with no head. Aroma was pretty bland, somewhat grassy and grain notes. Taste overall was pretty grainy with an overly malted charactertic. Finishes slightly bitter.
