COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Local legends aren’t just born, they’re brewed. And no beer in the Midwest has a grander brewing tradition than Grain Belt. For over 100 years, Grain Belt has been the beer that fathers have passed on to sons and friends have passed amongst each other at local bars and watering holes. It is a beer with tradition that spans generations. Which is why it has become legendary–both here and across the country.

In the 1940s, around the same time Grain Belt built its famous bottle cap sign overlooking the Mississippi River in Northeast Minneapolis, they introduced a “Beer of Exceptional Quality”–Premium. With its crisp, unique flavor, Premium quickly became the flagship of the Grain Belt brand. And still is to this day.

Although the Grain Belt Premium recipe has changed hands over the years, one thing has remained the same–its legendary unique taste. And now that Premium is in the capable hands of a brewery with an even longer tradition than Grain Belt–the August Schell Brewery–may you rest assured that the flavor and heritage of Premium will live on forever.

So as a local legendary beer, we raise a glass to all the people, places and things that make the Midwest such a rich and unique place to live. Here’s to you!

Bottle. Bright yellow and bubly. Quite possibly the starchiest beer ever made. Corn, corn, corn.

There is a bar in Eau Claire, WI called The Joynt that has a big sign on the back bar saying ’No Light Beers served’; they have four or five brews on tap, all local and cheap except for Guinness. This is my favorite to get there, light and sweet, sort of between Bud and Rolling Rock but better than either. Not great, but a good sweetish, smooth and clean-finishing American lager that’s well worth the price in the Minn-St. Paul area.

Poured a clear light yeloow color with a small white head. The malty aroma had some sweetness. The flavor is malty with a light graininess to it. Mildly-moderately sweet. Light bodied. Clean finish.

Golden color with a fizzy head. Semi-sweet aroma with some dusty hops. The taste is of sweet malts. This really isn’t bad at all; by far one of the better swills.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2006 Rerate Still solid and smooth all around - up a notch - enjoyed from the bottle at Eagle Street Grille in downtown St. Paul. Original 2.7Not bad for the price - even though I bought cans - there was no metallic aftertaste as expected. If I lived up north - this would be my budget beer. Classic thirst quenching beer taste.

Surprisingly not bad. No "off" flavors and nice and clean. I mean, when i rate a pale lager, I’m usually more impressed by what’s nor wrong with it, as opposed to what it actually is, and this isn’t bad. Thanks to JK for the trade.

Pretty solid for the style... and the price. Aroma is corny, grainy, and lightly fruity (apples, etc.) and the flavor is extremely light with not too many flaws apparent. Refreshing and drinkable. High carbonation and a color attributable to the style.

On tap @ Sanctuary in Iowa City. Pale yellow appearance with a light whitish head. Light pale lager nose. Pretty sweet pale lager flavor. Fairly easy drinking.

Can shared by footbalm. Pours a clear golden color with a small bubbly white head. The aroma was sort of metallic with light grains and some skunky notes. The flavor was nice; light corn and honey dipped grains. Sweet and refreshing. Quaffable for sure. A highly carbonated body.

A friend from Minnesota just sent me a 12 pack of Grain Belt (Schell's version). I can't say that it seems any different from the original. Very foamy white head, corn flavor, golden color. The one to have in Minnesota.
