COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Local legends aren’t just born, they’re brewed. And no beer in the Midwest has a grander brewing tradition than Grain Belt. For over 100 years, Grain Belt has been the beer that fathers have passed on to sons and friends have passed amongst each other at local bars and watering holes. It is a beer with tradition that spans generations. Which is why it has become legendary–both here and across the country.

In the 1940s, around the same time Grain Belt built its famous bottle cap sign overlooking the Mississippi River in Northeast Minneapolis, they introduced a “Beer of Exceptional Quality”–Premium. With its crisp, unique flavor, Premium quickly became the flagship of the Grain Belt brand. And still is to this day.

Although the Grain Belt Premium recipe has changed hands over the years, one thing has remained the same–its legendary unique taste. And now that Premium is in the capable hands of a brewery with an even longer tradition than Grain Belt–the August Schell Brewery–may you rest assured that the flavor and heritage of Premium will live on forever.

So as a local legendary beer, we raise a glass to all the people, places and things that make the Midwest such a rich and unique place to live. Here’s to you!

A slight improvement over other American Standards. Not as bad as it looks.

Was in Minnesota, ran across a bottle. It wasn’t skunked but it also isn’t that great. No worse than BMC.

Appearance is as good as it is going to get for this style, light yellow, decent, quite long lasting head, good lacing. Aroma is light, with just a hint of corn flakes. Mmmm, breakfast. Taste had a bit of corn, and a definite sweetness, but just enough hops to keep it from being cloying. Good palate. Really a quite decent example of the style. Thanks wawood!

Big ass mug at Grumpy’s Roseville. Pours a standard fizzy yellow gold with a fizzy white head. Nose is fresh grain, a hint of maize and distant American hops. A touch sweet and pils malt-y as well. On taste, a bit fizzy and acidic from CO2, very clean fermentation and a crisp, albeit light bitterness that balances the sweetness of the grain alright. Nothing too fancy, but a well made pale lager for sure.

Light dusty malt aroma. Clear yellow pour. Flavor starts with a surprsing run of decent malt flavor, but then quickly fades into something a little skunky. Finishes extremely clean.

bottle-This is one of the best american standards i have ever had. pours a pale yellow with mild carbonation. Some noble hop characeristics in the aroma-slight grain/corn/ grass thing going. even with a clear bottle, the beer was not skunked (must have been a fresh sample). This would be the perfect college beer!!! Thanks to GrainBeltGuzzler for this one

Yellow with a medium white head. Aroma of corn and sweet malt. Taste of corn and sweet malt. Thin, watery, over carbonated, overly malted and astringent. Better than a miller or bud, but then isn’t everything.

Tap, bottle, can. Typical thin lager, yellow pour, minimal head. Very little in terms of aroma and flavor, maybe a little more substance than other macros, but not much.

One of the better lagers available in MN. Thick heavy body with plenty of grainy flavor. A similarly grainy aroma and a smooth finish.

I brought a can of this back from the 07 RBSG as kind of a goof. My friend, who will drink only Bud Light, really liked it. It is a pale straw color with a thin fizzy white head and a thin acetate nose. The flavor was generally watery, with a sort of metallic sweetness. This is a thin, easy drinking lawn mower beer.
