COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Local legends aren’t just born, they’re brewed. And no beer in the Midwest has a grander brewing tradition than Grain Belt. For over 100 years, Grain Belt has been the beer that fathers have passed on to sons and friends have passed amongst each other at local bars and watering holes. It is a beer with tradition that spans generations. Which is why it has become legendary–both here and across the country.

In the 1940s, around the same time Grain Belt built its famous bottle cap sign overlooking the Mississippi River in Northeast Minneapolis, they introduced a “Beer of Exceptional Quality”–Premium. With its crisp, unique flavor, Premium quickly became the flagship of the Grain Belt brand. And still is to this day.

Although the Grain Belt Premium recipe has changed hands over the years, one thing has remained the same–its legendary unique taste. And now that Premium is in the capable hands of a brewery with an even longer tradition than Grain Belt–the August Schell Brewery–may you rest assured that the flavor and heritage of Premium will live on forever.

So as a local legendary beer, we raise a glass to all the people, places and things that make the Midwest such a rich and unique place to live. Here’s to you!

12oz bottle. Pours a bright, clear golden color; fluffy white head with decent retention and fine-bubbled lacing; solid-looking pour. Dry and crisp aroma, showing some mineral bitterness, crackers, and sweet fruity malts; very nicely dry overall; crisp and clean. Very solid, well-carbonated, crisp and dry presence in the mouth: toasty malts, light fruitiness, and zesty, almost spicy, mineral hop bitterness; especially drinkable and crisp overall, this tastes more like a well-made pilsener than anything; both Ali and I really enjoyed this one. Even the alleged swill in MN is excellent. Medium finish: crisp overall, showing dry toasty malts, minerals, and just a touch of floral notes and sugar; again, nicely dry and crisp throughout.

UPDATED: SEP 22, 2008 On tap at Old Chicago. Pale golden, smells like corn with a little lemon. Goes down beautifully. 100th beer, and none more deserving of the honor than this one. God bless Grain Belt Premium.

This is a pleasant, refreshing beer. It is gold with a smallish white head that slowly dissipates. The aroma is pleasant, sweet grain, flowery, and a little fruity. It’s light but rather strong for the style. The taste is similarly mild but strong and complex for the style. It’s faintly sweet grain, a bit flowery, fruity with apple cider and a mild but long grain aftertaste. It’s a bit watery, like apple cider, but very nice, aromatic, crisp and easily drinkable. It is somewhat like a very dry apple cider with a toasted grain/beer element thrown in. Overall, this is very pleasant and satisfying if light.

UPDATED: APR 11, 2004 You have to be from the midwest to appreciate this brew. It is definately an acquired taste. Unfortunalty i am still trying to acquire a liking for it.. but hey i just started drinking it. Another downside is that its expensive here. 6 bucks for a sixer.

Better than average golden American lager. Very clean with some malt character and hops flavor. Some adjuncts but they didn’t overdo it too much. Grain Belt is a good consistent beer at a fair price. I would seek out this beer if I was looking for American style lager. The flavor and quality far exceeds anything from the big national brewers so why not drink a Grain Belt Premium instead of a Bud?

A good beer for the taste. Easy on the bank roll. Has a light gold color with a white head. I think the alcohol content is 4.4% not 3.2% unless you bought it at a gas station.
