COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Master-Brewer found a recipie which was elaborated in 1898, the year the brewery was created. On this basis, he elaborated a 8,5° white beer of top fermentation. Mashed from three strictly selected malts, the "Grain d’Orge Cuvée 1898" is to be savoured in good times.

can from Auchan Illkirch. Clear golden colour, large white head, quickly collapsing. Malty, sweet, biscuity with some nice fruity hints there, also a warming touch of alcohol. Bitter, hoppy finish with more fruit.

Bottle. Clear pale body with low white head. Aroma has an alcohol character right away, with light yeasty fruitness. Taste has light malty sweetness with medium earthy bitterness, alcohol sweetness in the after taste. Refreshing, but too warming for myself. Body is full, high carbonation.

Bière blonde ambrée avec peu de mousse. Nez essentiellement sur le malt, léger côté caramel. Faible Amertume, goût sucré, malté et alcoolisé. Pas très subtil ...

Very malty ale, darker golden, bordering on amber, with fast disappearing head. Aroma is malt, honey and butterscotch. Taste is mostly malt and a hint od cider. Mouthfeel is slick, and palate is smooth and mildly sweet.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2012 750mL bottle from Cellier des Arcades. The weird thing about a lot of French beer is that regardless of the quality or brewery, it comes in multiple, totally different formats. I think I’ve seen homeless guys sitting and chugging cans of this stuff, but the label on the bottle is so different, I would not have guessed a beer in such a bottle could be so sketchy. But here I am with this clear golden brew, with a grassy, somewhat skunky aroma, but it’s not too unpleasant smelling. Unfortunately the flavour is rather awful. It’s a weird boozy mess of incoherent off-flavours and flaws that combine to make a pretty undrinkable beer. The only drain-pour I’ve had so far in France.
