3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Bov (7364) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - NOV 4, 2002
clear amber colour, nice creamy head and beautiful lace, complex aroma (alocohol, spices, cellar, apple), smooth and sweet with a long bitter alcohol and fruity finish
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MartinT (6350) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 21, 2002
UPDATED: MAY 26, 2004 Like many bières de garde, good cereals and caramel…Bananas and vanilla join the bitter honey…The alcohol is not very well disguised though and hides many flavors that one could have pleasure to find…
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 OlJuntan64 (1266) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUL 1, 2002
Light amber clear with small, white, fine bubbled head, Faint grassy hops and grainy malt and very faint whiskey and butter scotch aromas. Lowly carbonated but smooth and creamy, reasonably lively and balanced hop-bitter/ malt-sweet palate. Other than that, not much in the way of flavours except malt and hint of alcohol in the aftertaste. (Rated 29/6/02: Villers Bocage, France)

Good colour, although the head disappears rather quickly. There are strong alcohol flavours along with a syruppy sweetness. Not bad.

Slightly winey taste, but very similar to the real belgian ales. Normally French beers are mediocre, but this beer is actually good.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 neilrichards (191) - Leicestershire, ENGLAND - MAY 14, 2002
Golden colour, loads of fizz, not much head. Sweet smelling. Quite sweet initally, with bitterness afterwards. Like other beligians, its strong. Not what I personally look for in a beer as you couldnt drink too many of them. For just the one though, it’s quite good.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 omhper (15964) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 23, 2002
My sample was cellared 3 years. Yeasty, light bodied, creamy. Tones of blue cheese. Balanced bitterness.

One of the more mediocre examples of the style. I still like it, but there are better examples out there if you can find them.
