Classic bière de garde from the region known as French Flanders. Finely structured, snow white head, orange blonde colour with protein flakes. Aroma of orange, banana, caramel, cinnamon, liqueur, peat and a smoky hint which they claim comes from fermentation. Sweet fruity taste, bit cake-like, drying up in the middle and finishing in herbal hops but also badly hidden, astringent alcohol.

Bottle. Golden, clear. Big quickly vaporating white head. Aroma has grain, yeast and wood. Taste has grain, some fruit, yeast and wood. On the bitter side as a whole. Well rounded but lacks character. Basically a beefed up laher. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330ml Flasche.

Bottled as "Bière blonde cuivrée" in Douai, France. Pours as a slightly cloudy amber with a frothy head which persists for some time. Slightly malty aroma with a sweetish taste. Slight note of "orange confits". Not the best beer that I have tasted!

Medium amber with a white, disappearing, lacy, frothy head. Smells of alcohol, malt, caramel, molasses, raisins and a faint hint of roasted malt. Medium frothy, oily body, tastes of alcohol comes full centre. Followed my malt, nut and syrup. Alcohol is clearly present on the bitter finish.

Bottle at the Kastelhof, Cassel, 22/03/13 - split with Leighton and Bruce, labelled as ’Blonde Cuivree’. Lightly hazed blonde/amber with a thin white head that dissipates edgeward. Nose is pale malt, dark fruit notes, grass, citrus, orange peel, touch of spice, light booze whiff. Taste comprises light toffe tang, spice, dark fruits, over ripe orange, sugars. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, sweet notes in a dry finish, Ok I guess - Les ’Whelme’ !!!

Good, but not great. Everything is about average on this, no one single feature is outstanding. Sourish aroma of grapes, sourdough. Taste is also mildly sour, dried fruit, butterscotch. Cellaring might be the trick for this beer.
