Cask conditioned at The Windham Arms, Sheringham, Norfolk. Black with tan head. Rich smooth fruity beer, plenty of depth, plummy, port like, lasting with a background silky chocolate note. Quite moorish.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Leighton (6956) - London, ENGLAND - JUL 1, 2012
Bottle at the CBC Tune-Up Tasting, London. Thanks to Paul. Pours brown with a fine, beige foam head. Mild dust roast aroma. Medium sweet flavor with light dirt and dusty cocoa. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly drying on the finish, with more dusty roast and cocoa notes. Nice and standard, though the character is still pretty solid.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jackl (2587) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2012
Bottle at Scopey’s CBC Tune-Up. Deep brown color with no head. The nose is deep bitter chocolate and roasted malts. Light lactose and sweet brown sugar. The taste is watery dry roasted coffee, rainy field grass. The body’s quite light and bone dry on the finish. Overall, a decent porter. It just lacked any compelling flavor for me.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Scopey (3243) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2012
Bottle at my Pre-CBC Tune-Up Tasting. It pours very dark brown, with a thin beige head. The nose is roasted malt, smoke, bonfire, chocolate and a touch of dark fruit. The taste roasted malt, caramel, wood, charcoal, filter coffee, dark fruit and milk chocolate, with a dry-roasted finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. An all-round good porter.
