A rich red premium bitter that beautifully balances roasted malts with sherbert grapefruit hoppiness.

A light, sweet malt aroma, with faint orange hop notes. Good level of carbonation. A quaffable ESB,

8th June 2014 sat in the sun on the front terrace of the excellent Barking Smack on Great Yarmouth’s seafront road. Hand-pulled half-pint. Good deep amber body with a reddish hue, on top a smooth white covering of tight bubbles. I found it hoppier than malty, a nice blend of flavours actually. Nothing overly powerful or mega tasting, just a good easy to drink British beer.

A mid reddish orange coloured beer with a weak white head. A light but full aroma of nutty malt, caramel and bready, there is a hint of orangey hop in the background. Dry mouthfeel. A medium dry malt flavour, nutty, caramel and cereal, followed again by a tangy citrusy hop flavour that adds a good balance to the finish. Tasted at the 3rd. Fakenham Beer Festival. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask UEA. Chestnut coloured beer with a large, soft head which shrank to nothing. Fruits, woods, and some caramel. Lovely long lingering bitter finish from juicy hops - which is what lifts this above beers of this type. Medium body with a soft carbonation. Nice from a cold cellar.

Cask at Ales & Tails, Twickenham - 15/12/12. Lightly hazed copper with reddish hues and a thin off white head that clears to the edge of the glass and leaves a thin film. Nose is caramel malt, sweet sugars, pine, hops, strawberry jam. Taste follows, more fruit notes, apricot, pine, sugars, a little biscuit. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, bitter sweet finish. Decent stuff.

Cask at the Maypole, Cambridge. Clear reddish copper pour with a glass hugging head and no real lace. The aroma is spicy citrus leading to a heavily hopped smooth bitter flavour with grapefruit notes on the palate. A beautiful smooth, flavourful ale, good for all seasons. Shame it’s not more widely available.

Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol 07/07/2012. Deep copper in colour with a slight, off-white head. Sweet, caramel and red berry aroma with plenty of leafy hops. Flavour had more toffee and red currant sweetness, with a dab of citrus before a pleasantly bitter finish. Good.
