COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rutland Bitter is one of a pair of ales that made Rutland famous for it’’’’s brews during the last century, a tradition now being carried forward by the Grainstore Brewery. Rutland Bitter is a distinctive beer predomintly bitter in taste but also possessing some sweetness and a fruity, hoppy aroma. The malted barley and traditional hop varieties used in the brewhouse are all sourced from the best farming areas in England and are prepared to a very strict specification. Rutland Bitter exhibits a full bodied flavour which belies its lower than average gravity, and with only 1.9 units of alcohol per pint, makes it a truely quaffable session ale!

Hand pulled at the Swan and Rushes, Leicester. Light brown. Very thin in the gob. One dimensional bitter malt. Old school, one dimensional. Not unpleasant, just dull.

Cask at Leicester Beer Festival 2012. Clear ginger blonde ale, no head. Bitter hops taste turning sweet in the aftertaste. Hints of ginger, treacle and lemon. Light. Drinkable.

Cask conditioned handpump Rose & Crown Yardley Hastings. A sweet alnmost honeyed aroma to what is basically a thin yeasty boy’s bitter. Not a lot of flavour and definitely low on hop profile. Dull.

Cask, William Wygston, Wigston. Golden with an off-white foam.  Aromas are biscuit and citrus with soft floral notes.  Flavours are spritzy lemon and yeast with hints of toffee malt.  Quite light bodied but it is low in alcohol.  An OK session brew.

Cask, half pint well kept and served at the large Wetherspoons in the centre of Milton Keynes. Dense, thin white head blanketing the glass. Clear copper body colour. Faint aroma of grassy hops. Weak malt-fruity taste. Clean bitter end. Easy drinking, does not feel too thin. Food friendly, 21.03.2011.
