COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
A refreshing well balanced dark mild, whose chocolate and fruity flavours compliment its roasted long bitter finish. Primed using a combination of rich dark sugars, this beer is a taste sensation.

Cask - Planet Thanet Beer Festival ’09. Dark brown with reddy hues and a tan coloured head. Sweet aromas with a smokey quality and burnt roasted malts. Flavours of BBQ smokiness/spiciness and more roasted malts. Pleasing, creamy light dry bitterness. Smooth and filling mouthfeel; a real winner of a mild.

[500ml bottle from Wyevale Garden Centre, Twyford] Admittedly bought this to complete my English counties, but was well worth buying anyway! Poured black with a moderate cream head. Slight fizz. Coffee on the nose, but oddly in the initial taste fruit dominates - blackcurrant with maybe some liquorice. There’s chocolatey hints, before a good deep roasty, almost ashy finish. Really good flavours, although maybe a little thin in the mouth. An excellent mild that I would love to try on cask.

Dark brown color, almost black; small head. The aroma is very breadish, some cardboard, some nice chocolate, mild roasted malt. The body is thin, but the mouthfeel has some softness; very good dark chocolate and roasted malt flavor, with correct bitterness. Dry finish.
Very good; I can imagine how it can be from a fresh cask.

Brown 500ml bottle obtained in a mixed pack from the brewery, original review lost on BA site. Wasn’t overly impressed with this beer from start to finish; a great pity because I love the set-up and brewery tap they have. I visit the brewery annually (if possible), so I’ll try and pick up another bottle or two of this and re-review next year.

Bottle from Wyevale garden centre, Bicester. Pours a dark chestnut / rich ruby red with a sustained tight creamy tan head. Aroma is faint chocolate maltiness with a light nutty edge. Silky and a touch drying as it oozes over the tongue, a rich roasty chocolate bitterness is quite enveloping which is astonishing considering that this beer is only 3.4%. The aftertaste has a creamy toasty malty nuttiness which is really delightful. All the flavours present aren’t what you might call big flavours, which is to be expected in a beer of this strength, but this is a very accomplished piece of brewing indeed.
