A full strength mahogany coloured beer, which has a moreishness typical of a beer possessing the fine balance of pronounced hop bitterness & aroma against a natural malty sweetness, creating a deceivingly drinkable beer.

Pours a clear mid brown with an off white head. Smells of the bakery and then toffee. Lovely rounded bitter taste.

Slightly hazy amber pint with a thick foamy head. Light malty smell. Flavour is a fairly standard bitter. Earthy malt, a bit of light fruit. There’s a citric bitter touch to it as well which livens it up a bit, especially the aftertaste.

(Grainstore Ten Fifty) Bottle 500ml from vipinvelp, many thanks Werner! Served into an english pint glass, ABV 5% Amber coloured beer, clear body, small off-white head with good retention, leaving medium lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, toffee, english hops, biscuit. Classic. Taste also of toffee, also red fruits in there, some biscuit and cookie dough, light marmalade, then a nice bitterness, long lasting and being present on the aftertaste too. Medium body with good carbonation. Nice.

50cl bottle at Appellation Wines Comely Bank tasting - this one from allmyvinyl. Appearance - amber with a cream head that falls away quite quickly. Nose - toffee, with just a suggestion of biscuits going on too. Taste - more toffee and maybe butterscotch. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a finish that is just too sweet. Overall - nothing wrong with it, it’s solid, but it’s nothing special. An ESB can have many more levels of complexity than this.
