2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in February 2013. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale orange amber in colour with a thick off white foam head. Slight note of fresh green apple and yeasty dough in the short aroma. Thin, resiny mouthfeel and decent lacing. Pale malt gives a robust maltloaf base with hints of gingerbread and figs. Strong hop resins give a peppery note to the long aftertaste. Finish is malty and has a dry oak cask and grapefruit pith notes really evident in the mouth. You can taste the ABV in this, a well recommended ESB.

Malty smelling dark brown beer. Honestly not my thing and I don't know where I've gone wrong? I don't like.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle from a case bought by the wife for Christmas. Served cool in an English pint. Very attractive beer: Deep gold with an offwhite head that stays around lacing down the glass. Grassy wheat straw aroma. Big juicy floral and cereal flavours, cut with bitter hop astringency on the swallow. Some lingering Sauvignon Blanc aftertaste. Beautifully balanced, and very morish.
