2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
[500ml bottle from Tescos, New Street Birmingham]. Pours a light toffee colour, extremely hazy - pretty much opaque. Mild aromas of malt and the classic Fuggles tang - although it tastes much nicer thankfully. Biscuity hoppy finish with a bittersweet aftertaste following. From Rutland, the motto of which is Multum in Parvo - ’Much in Little’. Indeed.

Spoons next to Liverpool Street. Toffee; butterscotch, honey, grass, murky copper bronze colour, light particles, creamy, good lacing, moderately bitter finish. Just plain and simple really. Doubt it was in top form mind.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Yvonne, for my birthday last year. Amber colour. Pondy, slightly fruity aroma. Thin in the mouth ,some tree, orange, strawberry and jam. A touch twiggy and rather bitty. A sum of parts, that’s not a sum. Nice, but not brilliant. Rather like a US Amber Ale.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is a great English Bitter, one of the best. Nose is dominated by toffee/caramel sweetness with a touch of typically english hops - pine and spruce. This is continued on the palate with lots of malt sweetness; caramel, toffee and chocolate. This sweetness is beautifully balanced by the high, but not out-of-proportion bitterness.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A - Ruby orange and deep amber. Slightly below average head with light retention and some lacing.
S - A bit of toffee and caramel malt with some nuttiness. Flowery and berry. Slight tartness with a hint of ammonia-like scent.
T - Toffee and caramel, grainy malts provide the base for the beer. On top of that are some floral and earthy hops. Also a bit of fruitiness (touch of apple and red berry) that give a bit of tartness to the beer.
M - Medium starting to border on light body. Slightly below carbonation. Fairly drying end.
D - Pretty good drinkability. Goes down easy with well balanced flavors that are interesting on the palate and I want to drink more to better figure it out.
Notes: Intriguing beer that I can’t quite fully understand. The fruitiness that is brought in is interesting, not the most refreshing fruit taste but good. I liked this better the more I drank, so I guess it fits well as a traditional English session beer. Worth trying if you get a chance.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
2nd August 2008. Clear amber beer. Slightly creamy malt start quickly overwhelmed by bitter hop which linger on the back of the tongue. Too bitter to enjoy, nothing else from the hops but bitterness!
