Aroma is dominated by smokey malts. Flavor is pretty similar, although I found the smoke to be a bit much for my tongue. I didn’t pick up any (or much) of the black cherry or raisin in their commercial description. Palate was medium bodied. Overall it was a nice beer to try, but I probably won’t be going back to the well.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 3, 2010 Bomber. Pours a deep ruby amber with a thinning head. Aroma is a bit off- some oxidation, soy, dirty diaper, garbage, medicinal phenolics to go with the smoke and peat. Flavor is a bit of matchstick smokie, phenolic, spicy, big caramel sweet malts, toffee, molasses, peat, earth leather and tobacco- sweet on teh finish but an oxidized slick ending. notalush (2699), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 22, 2009 Bomber - pours a very dark reddish brown - smallish, fizzy lace - smoky aroma, with some notes of scotch/peat, plum, raisin, toffee, vanilla - very peaty, smoky, almost meaty up front - this is followed by medium plumy sweetness, raisin, caramel, the faintest hint of diacetyl (tastes intentional, though) - lingering peat in a warming finish - not bad for 3.99. jcwattsrugger (5583), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 30, 2009 12oz bottle, no date. Clear deep brown with a half finger tan head, fading to a ring before long. Smoked meat, leather, and tobacco up front in the aroma with some light toasted malts and chocholate behind. I also pick up on a tinge of something tangy, but could be from the leather and tobacco. The flavor adds a lightly roasty component, but otherwise mostly follows the aroma. The tobacco and leather are milder, as well as the smoke, but the smoke is only slightly lessened. Bitterness peaked around a 2. Light carbonation with a medium smooth body. Pretty good Scotch ale. Oh, and at 8 percent, I had no idea it was that strong until I lookeed at the stats. Headbanger (1601), Aurora, Illinois, USA

| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 22, 2009 Bottle in trade. Thanks! Pours dark brown to black with no head. Smell is roasty and malty. Taste is somewhat dry and smoky but with sweetness in there too. I’d say this is a well above average Scotch ale, but I still don’t care much for it.
