Tessic (631) - Brantford, - FEB 5, 2012
This stout poured a deep black colour with a small, brown head. To the nose there are scents of coffee, cocoa, bread and earth. First sip was a little thin but very roasty with flavours of dark malt, toast and coffee. Finish is just as roasted with black coffee flavour lingering.

Pours a pitch black body, head is a mocha color and 3/4th inch. Head retention is above average and lacing is average. Smell is mostly of lightly roasted and chocolate malts. There is also a bit of sweetness, like bakers chocolate. Hops and alcohol are not present at all. First thing that strikes me in the taste department is that the beer taste watered down or diluted. One of the least flavorful oatmeal stouts I’ve had. Theres a little sweetness and some smoky burnt malts but just not enough to excite the palate. There is also some chalky biscuit malts that is most often found in irish dry stouts, not oatmeal stouts. Hops and alcohol cant be detected. Mouthfeel is watery and disappointing. Extremely light bodied, there is no silky smoothness that I usually get from oatmeal stouts. Head was semi present throughout the glass, but this beer was doomed from the beginning. Overall , I was pretty let down by this beer. I would rather drink Guinness and I’m not a big Guinness fan. Too bland, not enough body to stand up to even the most modest stouts

Dogbrick (4842) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 4, 2012
This brew pours black with a thin and fizzy beige head that burns away quickly to a wispy film. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and a touch of vinegar. Light body for a Stout with a sweet roasty malt character and notes of sour coffee and fruit. The finish is sweet and roasty with a short astringent coffee aftertaste. Slightly below average overall.

Pours dark brownish black with thin to almost no off white head. Aroma has notes of toffee, chocolate, some roast, coffee, touch of earth in there as well. Taste is pretty smooth but has a bit of that sour grain, some toffee, chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, bitter roasted finish. Not bad overall.

PorterPounder (4112) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUL 27, 2011
Grand Lake, Co - on tap at the brewpub. Dark brown tea-looking pour with an off-white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma has some anise and licorice accents and bit of brown sugar. Flavor has some brief unsweetened chocolate, a hint of licorice and some vanilla notes in the background. Mouthfeel is velvety and creamy. Solid oatmeal stout.

Darkest of brown. Light brown pour. Aroma is smokey, sweet malt, molasses, raisins, roast. Flavor is a bit of smoke mixed with roasted malt, coffee, cocoa. Enjoyable.

bottle. Pours black with small brown head. Aroma of roast, subtle smoke, toffee. Somewhat watery, thin body. It has the same molasses sweet malt finish as the other 3 beers i’ve tried from them so far, although its not too overpowering in this one. Flavor is roast. Nothing extraordinary about this one, and the sweet finish is not good. It is drinkable I guess.

12 oz bottle purchased as part of a Grand Lake sampler in Breckenridge, Colorado. Pour is opaque black with a smallish khaki head. Despite being small, it is lasting and throws off some nice lacing. Aroma is oatmeal, cane sugar sweet, and a whisper of coffee roast. The taste has a fair amount of roast coffee up front, silky oatmeal, finishing with a bit of cane sweetness, but realy only a touch. Interesting disparity between the nose and taste. Palate is medium bodied, lower carbonation with a dry mineral finish. As it warms, the sweetness cloys some on the finish. Overall, a nice one.

Ernest (5187) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - SEP 4, 2010
Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy, brown, fully diminishing. Body is black (almost opaque, flashlight tested). Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate, roasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers), with notes of vanilla and chalk, light note of sour milk. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively/fizzy carbonation. As with many other recent samples from this brewery, quite sour and unpleasant to drink. The aroma is mostly ok in this one, albeit simple...a little soured milk hurts the score, but otherwise it’s pretty much the usual suspects for a stout. Fizzy mouthfeel.

(12oz bottle to english pint) pours dark, jet black. dark tan, frothy head. once you crack a bottle of this stuff you can smell the oatmeal and cereal instantly, all the way across the room! sour bitter taste with a creamy texture. full bodied with a smooth, robust finish. a great stout in my books.
