Michigan BGF 06, day 2. Listed as Irish Cream Chocolate Stout: Deep brown with little head. The aroma is well...COFFEE! Oh some smoke and whisky, blackberry, and chocolate as well. The taste has a lot of chocolate upfront with a hit of twangy fruit. Very sweet and malty which got old in the end. The feel is smooth and velvety. Okay, I can live with it.

Draft at the brewery. Pours black with a small tan head. Smell is of coffee. Very rich and full taste, almost like coffee with too much sweet creamer. Lots of chocolate and milk, fairly roasty. Quite thick and sweet.

Draught sample at MBG 2006 Summer Festival. I suspect this might be a different beer, but this is where everyone who had it at the fest is rating it, so I guess I’ll stick it here as well. Deep brown-black with a wisp of a tan head. Aroma is very sweet, lots of chocolate and espresso. Thick, syrupy body. Flavour is big and sweet, lots of chocolate and milky, overly sweetened coffee. I like chocolate, I like coffee, I like stout, but this was just too sweet for me in the end.

Draught. At 2006 Michigan Brewers’ Guild Festival. Impenetrable black with ruby-brown highlights near the edges, with an okay brown head. Soft aroma, very sweet and liqueur-ish, with roast nutty malt, an odd cereal grain presence, some dryness from mild hops as it warmed. Tasted very much like a liqueur, very creamy, tons of sweet dark chocolate and sweetened coffee - this suckers way too sweet. Thick, slick, creamy mouthfeel, syrupy, coats the tongue, has quite an aftertaste that ultimately finishes a little bitter. Just too syrupy for me.

not bad for GRBC....i enjoy most of their stouts....normal stout appearance...dark brown (almost black) with medium brown foamy head....aroma is a tad weak, with roasted chocolate and coffee notes....flavor brings out more of the cream (yet only subtle) and nuts....fortunately it is mostly lacking the metallic aftertaste that most of their beers have...nice stout
