Tasted 4/27/08. Sampler from the brewpub. Dark as pitch with a brown hue. Toffee and coffee in the nose. Touch burnt. Medium bodied with a nice roasty grainy fruity flavor. Sticky and bitter. Dry finish. Nutty with a hint of molassis. Tasty.

On tap at brewpub. Dark brown with a nice off white head. Bland aroma, some malts come through, nothing unique. Light body for a porter, reminds me of a red. Not much flavor, decent.

On tap at Grand Rapids Brewing Company. Brown with red highlights and a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel and toffee. Taste of roasted malts, smoke, peat and light caramel. A bad sourness hovers over this one and it finishes astringent.

From what I remember they were selling this as a stout, maybe I am incorrect though. A nice black pour with a whitish head. Roasted malt and some coffee. Aroma does not lie, tastes similarly with some slight chocolate tones. Pretty dry clean finish. Far and away the best of their regular offerings.

Draft.A dark brown color, with a thin light tan head,Aroma of chocolate and maybe butterscotch, tastes pretty much the same as it smells. This and the Octoberfest were the only thing I tried here that I would order again.

(Sampled 7-5-08 at brewery from sampler) Midnight black in color, non transparent when held to the sun. Roasted malt with coffee and dark molasses in the background according to my old sniffer. Hits the mouth with a medium body, malt comes through nicely in translation, very light on the tongue, some caramel and walnuts on the finish. The wife had a snort and compared it to a Guinness Light- I would have to concure with her observations. To be honest, that’s not a bad thing either...

Pours black with a cream head. Roasted caramel is most noticeable in the aroma. It tastes sickly sweet followed by a dark roast aftertaste.

Pretty dark brown color, good roasted malt flavor, but light on hops. Part of 5 brew sampler for $4.95!

Draft at brewpub. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium balanced bittersweet flavor with a medium bitter finish of moderate duration.

On Tap at GR Brewpub -- Rich aroma of coffe and chocolate. Appearance is an apealing black/brown with a minimal amount of carbonation and light head. Fllavor has a strong hoppy malt with roasted coffe and some fruitiness
