UPDATED: DEC 17, 2007 Pours misty yellow,great frothy head.Aroma green grass or salt air.Head has gone leaving mild cover.Flavour is tangy,hoppy,vibrant sweet,bitter taste,banana and lemon.Finish is tangy and dry but sweet,a lovely beer.

Bottle. A clear amber-golden beer with a smallish white head. Aromas of grainy sweet malts, floral hops, some citrus. Nicely balanced flavour profile with the dry resinous Saaz hops coming through. Medium bodied with a thinnish texture and lively carbonation. A decent European-style pilsner from an Aussie brewer.

Pours gold with a large lasting head. Nose shows spicy and floral hops with a huge sweet malt presence after including lots of caramel. Similar flavours however a bold bitterness balances out the malt. Lots of caramel, honey, nutty malt and piney hops. Carbonation is a little high. Very sweet and malty for a pilsner.

The pils poured light golden with an average whitish foam. Lovely grassy and floral overtones on the nose. I have to mark the beer down because of its unmistakable diacetyl content which is a unfavourable taste in lager/pilsner type beers.

Starts with a nice honey essence, but very bitter afterwards. Slighty cloudy, but quick drinkable.

Radiant Summery gold body with a very fine bead. Head a good inch thick and a dense and rocky white. Pronounced malt nose, some cereal and fresh baked, salty bread, peanuts and burnt sugar. Sweet, sweet blackbutt honey flavour starts it off, some biscuity grain then Saaz hops take over to balance it out as best it can. Big, peppery, weedy-herbal presence of hops in back, a little wood and pine late, mildly resinous into the woody, dry swallow. Light bodied and softly spoken it dulls out quickly to become almost flat in mouthfeel (might be my sample!). Nice presence in the mouth but the honey sweetness takes away from the malt flavours of true dry Pilsners. A reasonable offering of Aussie Pils! (33cL, no date stamp, Dan Murphy’s Mandurah)

Bottle. Just cloudy light amber with a tightly-packed 2 cm white head. Aroma has honey and orange blossoms, hints of tropical fruits and pine. Thin body. Light fruity sweetness with nice but perhaps a bit too delicate floral/ herbal bitterness. Brief bitter finish. Not bad: a bit insubstantial but nice fresh hop character.

On tap at the White Horse, Parsons Green. Hazy gold beer with a little white head. Softish dry palate. Mild malt base - a little creamy. Decent hops. Tangerine and orange citrus, whispers of pineapple and mango. Well balanced with the malt. Semi dry minerally finish. Decent pilsner and very drinkable - could session this no problem at all!

Tap. Tasty pilsener. Aroma is citrusy, and honeyish. Taste has a sweet start, with a bitter finish. Palate is oily, with a thin-to-medium body. Yellow, bubbly, with a fizzy head.

330ml bottle. Pours a clear gold, with a weak, fading head, and no lacing. There is very little noticeable aroma, except perhaps a little yeast and a whiff of alcohol. There is an initial, mild hops flavour, but nothing the intense Saaz bitterness of a real pilsener. There is very little body to this beer, and it finishes with a slightly off hops flavour, followed by an unpleasant mixture of metallic flavour and weak alcohol. This is a disappointment, as every other Grand Ridge beer I have tried has been exceedingly pleasant. This, however, in an unworthy, paint-by-numbers lager, clearly aimed at the premium lager market, that is completely undeserving of the appellation of pilsener.

Bottle - Golden with medium head. High carbonation. Bitter beer with minimal hop flavours. Just misses on many levels.
