A full flavoured creamy Australian style stout with delicate chocolate and liquorice flavours from the combination of pure malts. It is very easy on the palate with moderate alcohol content. An exceptional cold weather beer served at cellar temperature. Winner of the Champion Beer at the 1997 Australian and International Beer awards, Small Brewery Section and Best Exhibit in Class 34 in 2000. Winner of Australia’s best Stout at the National Festival of beers 2001 for the second time and a long list of International medals continuing to 2011 with 2 medals for both bottled and draught products. Perfect for beef and Hatlifter pie and all stews and casseroles. Also very popular with many Asian dishes.

Draught@Monks Porterhouse, Stockholm. Quite much black colour with a mediumsized brown head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, cream and some slight spicyness along with mildly roasted tones. Flavour is quite similar with some dark dry fruityness added.

Tap at the White Horse Pub, London. Pours opaque, brown-red with a soft, foamy white head. Roasted malt, brown sugar aroma. Sweet flavor with dark malts, brown sugar, light smoke and modest char. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a smooth, silky mouthfeel. Has a sweet, roasted malt finish with notes of caramel and mocha. Very good.

Bottle. [thanks bluebetty]
Deep brown, bordering on black. Small, staying, creamy, beige head. Aroma is mild sweet, quite a bit of tartish berry, roasted malts, light chocolate. Medium, quite prickly carbonation, dry and light mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet at first, chocolate, softly fruity, then turns roasted and dry. Nice malty bitter finish where it almost feels a bit smoky. Shame that the prickliness of the carbonation kinda limits the experience.

Black with a tan head, deep roasted malt with definite chocalatey notes. Smooth and easy to drink, light in the body. Very good.

(Draught at Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm) Very dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, dark bread, cocoa and ryvita. Roasted, malty taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, dark bread and ryvita. Coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body, rather dry. Well made and tasty stout.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2003 Like it more and more every time i have it. Roasty, vegemitey nose. Very nice soft texture. Nicely bitter and roasty, a bit tarry aswell, it actually manages to cover the palate quite well, despite not having a very thick palate. Dry finish. Real nice.

330ml bottle. Poured with a small tan head that quickly disappeared. Thick black in colour, almost looked like a glass of cola. Strong burnt coffee aroma. Lingers on the palette and feels thick in the mouth.

UPDATED: JAN 7, 2008 Small dissappearing head, even with light behind a very dark stout.Aroma,choc,vanilla,malt.Flavour a bitter roasted flavour of coffee plus a sweetness on the tongue at the end. There was something bugging me about this when I drank it,I simply think it was at the end of every mouthfull, lack of flavour and watery, very uncomfortable on the stomach.I definately overrated this stout.
