3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
i was wondering what they meant in the label blurb when they said it was an "Australian style stout" but I got the idea immediately on the first whiff, with an aroma that smells uncannily like vegemite. Flavourwise it's like a cleaner version of Sheaf stout - fairly sweet coffeeish taste initially, then pungent tarry burnt flavours, then sweet lagery hops, then more burnt bitterness. Some hints of gingerbread in there too. Texture's very smooth: light but nicely oily. Maybe a bit too smooth for my liking - I would've liked more rasping roast barley graininess like Surefoot. Overall it's a good un. 7 3 7 3 14

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: Poured black to very dark brown (very dark red under lights) with a thick off-white head that lasted the glass and laced all the way. A very interesting nutty chocolate aroma with some caramel notes in the background. Flavour was caramel biscuits, chocolate, and light grainy coffee. Medium bitterness. I found it a little presence and was just a bit too watery on the palate. Otherwise a very nice stout indeed.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours black with brown/ruby highlights and a large lasting head.
Nose shows lots of chocolate, caramel and nutty malt. Nice roasty character.
In the way of flavours itís coffee rather than chocolate. Seems pretty light on, could us some more malt in there to flesh things out a bit.
Too much carbonation, body is lacking.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours very dark brown with red hues and little to no head. Roasted malts wrapped in light cocoa powder with a touch of pepper. Some piney and woody notes too. Lightly roasted spice and charred chocolate tones in the taste with a very light smokiness cutting through. A touch of sweet vanilla makes itself known. Pleasantly surprised with this one. Labels play a small part in which beers I choose to drink and the label doesnít do much for me but the beer has definitely made me happy

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Gentle roast aroma with caramel highlights, a hint of vegemite and herbs. Nice oily black looking. Light caramel (again scotch finger biscuit) flavour with coffee and dark roast malt finishes dry. Found it thinner than I expected but really easy to drink.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330ml bottle, served chilled. Deep brown body, near opaque, smallish tan collar. Good nose packed full of roasted malt; dark chocolate, espresso, brown sugar, nuts, a burnt woodiness. Medium body, carbonation is relatively low, has a gritty texture, drying roasted quality. Starts with biscuity malt, working its way to heavier roasted nuts, coffee and dark chocolate flavour, finishing with a dry burnt note. Quite a well-flavoured stout.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
330ml bottle. Poured with a small tan head that quickly disappeared. Thick black in colour, almost looked like a glass of cola. Strong burnt coffee aroma. Lingers on the palette and feels thick in the mouth.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours black, nice finger of tight crema head. Chocolate, coffee, raisins and (oddly) citrus aromas. Body is fairly thin, but perhaps heavier than the ABV would suggest. Carbonated mouthfeel - quite a lot too much. Sweetish fruits and coffee with some burnt malt notes.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours totally black with a light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt and coffee. Taste is also roasted malt with notes of coffee, chocolate and licorice. The finish is long and mostly roasty. Not bad.
