decent but unremarkable. not cloying but not flavoursome. some port-like warmth, faint vanilla and sultana

a pretty reasonable barley wine. not too brutal with the hops or the alcohol, but not too sweet either - pretty well balanced. mellow and malty/fruity. went well when cocktailed with Haåägen premium light.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2003 Really very nice. Rare for someone outside europe to put this much strength in a beer without making it thick, cloying and soupy, but grand ridge have. I wouldn't drink a lot of it, but that's not the point of this beer.
RERATE 14/07/03: I've added a couple of points now cos I used this beer to make a sensational chop marinade the other day. Fry some onions and mushrooms in an electric frypan. Remove. Fry some lamb chops (pretty much cook em). Remove. Throw in third to half a bottle of Supershine, half a cup of chicken stock, tablespoon Worcester, tablespoon ETA bbq sauce, teaspoon black bean sauce, the onions and mushrooms, and a pinch of fresh ground chili to taste. Reduce maybe 15 mins. Whack the chops back in and simmer in the sauce for maybe 20 mins. Serve, with all the sauce. Yum.

Another great brew from Grand Ridge. Nice dark color with an average size head. Various array of fruits and spices, the most noticeable raisins. Definately a sipping beer, almost like drinking a carbonated port!

Great colour and very nicer pour, can't say that the price justifies the beer though. Found it to be abit cloying in the mouth.

It’s OK... but I have too agree with duff that it’s way too sticky to be a great beer. However, it wasn’t unpleasant. Nice dark colour and many malts and fruits on the palate. Also hid the alcohol very well in my opinion. Not bad.

This beer packs a real punch in flavour, lots of malt, caramel, raisin and coffee notes. The palete is full and rich with a thick texture. Even though the alcohol is quite high it is well integrated. This beer is great.

I’m sorry, i guess its not my type of beer, just to sticky and malty, i guess it had OK balance and it had (well IMO) good ingredients, but i just couldn’t bring myself to liking this one, thanks for the beer though mutant!!

Strong and excellent. Wow, this one packs a punch. This is the Brandy to have when you prefer beer. Sit back with a cigar and ennjoy. fabulous, heavy and very alcaholic. Be careful.

Highest abv beer I’ve had. Starts out with malty alcoholic raisin flavour. Roast coffee aftertaste but not bitter. You will feel the alcohol afterwards
