3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Stew41 (1460) - Woodend, AUSTRALIA - DEC 18, 2011
Caught me off guard. Masses of slightly weird ’fruity’ notes just don’t mate that well with an earthy, grassy component (the oatmeal?). The ’Fruit Tingle’ tang just seems well out of place.
4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 IceSarah (2) - - DEC 7, 2011 does not count
Quite possibly my favourite beer currently. Has a beautiful oatmeal undercurrent. If you can still manage to grab a bottle, snap it up immediately.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Maris (546) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - NOV 12, 2011
From a 330ml bottle on 13/11/2011. Pours a deep golden with a medium head which disappears quickly. Has a quite a distinct fruit aroma with peach, apricot and mandarin evident. The flavour is primarily citrus fruit with lots of lemon and more mandarin, which contribute a sharp bitterness at the back. An unusual and interesting beer which doesn’t come together for me, but worth a go if you’re looking for something a bit different.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 mkel07 (1816) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - SEP 23, 2011
330ml bottle. Deep light fluffy pillow of foam sits across a sparkling golden amber beer which is pretty clear. Aromas of peaches and nectarines with a bit of straw mixed in. Light and zingy in the mouth with a clean crisp flavour.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 davidm (1370) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - AUG 29, 2011
Bottle 330ml. Great, with unique taste and aromas. Nose of biscuit and pine. Taste starts sweet, with bitterness taking over for a long finish. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Amber, with a frothy head.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 bluebetty (881) - AUSTRALIA - JUL 1, 2011
Bottle. Pours dark amber with cream coloured head. Interesting aromas of grassy hops, light caramel and a little saltiness. Flavours show some of the sweet caramel with light hop bitterness to finish. Medium mouthfeel. Not too bad.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Davros (1024) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 31, 2011
Pours dark amber with a large, lasting, creamy head and lots of lacing.
Nose shows tropical fruit, honey, orange blossom and some grassy notes (something I usually find in dry-hopped brews, i suspect theres not difference in the process with wet-hopping). The malt is really interesting, very full-on honey but also loads of caramel and a whack of diacetyl.
Similar mix of flavours, with honey, resinous hops, toffee, diacetyl and oatmeal (although perhaps I wouldn’t have noticed it if it wasn’t in the name). Finishes weakly with a mild bitterness.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 hawthorne00 (1441) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - APR 16, 2011
Bottle from farmers’ market. Clear pale amber with a thick white head. Aroma of spices, citrus, passionfruit. Taste has light honey and lots of hop aromatics - Galaxy I’d guess. Modest bitterness. A little soap in the finish. Didn’t pick up any oats. Delicate hop-driven ale.
