pootzboy (863), Calgary/ Kitchener, Alberta, Canada Jan 23, 2008 Updated: Jan 31, 2008 The greatly anticipated GRB ale made exclusively for the Castle on King is finally on tap.
Taps a shimmering hazed amber-orange with rich sticky cap that lasts and laces up the glass.
Aroma is malty and lightly musty with a profuse bouquet of peach-grapefruit tones mingling with some grassy and woody notes...becomes more pungent as it warms. Nice nose to this.
Flavor is rich in crystal and amber malts in the front then a rush of fruity notes mingle with piney-citrus bittering.... appearing mid palate is a wee bit of complexity with a number of inflections discernible: honey and pine nuts, herbal botanicals, spiced sweet bread, lemon grass...all this leads to a wet and musty-sweet finish with ample metallic bitter hop "bite" to balance.
Excellent crafted APA like a cross between Anchor liberty and SN pale... the best brew so far from this brewer....only available at the Castle on King in Kitchener.
Glouglouburp (1943), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 10, 2008 In short: A plain nice English Strong Ale
How: Post-Mondial 2008 tasting session. Growler from one of the Ontario visitor
The look: Clear dark copper body topped by a very small off-white head
In long: I enjoyed the body and mounthfeel of this one. Nice earthy and woody malts, round caramel, light nutty flavours, leafy hops. Not very tasty and nothing that stands out in the flavour spectrum but the beer had this freshness character that made quite enjoyable. Very well balanced beer, I put my glass on the table and it didn’t flip over. mabel (1633), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 9, 2008 [1460-20080531] Growler. Fruity pineapple aroma has a bit of booze and sweet hints of sweat. Lightly hazy, dark red amber body with a foamy off-white head. Fruity heavy malt flavour has a boozy sweat hint. Medium body. Interesting fruity background.
(Post-Mondial Tasting) chops (28), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Aug 9, 2008 Pint from the castle on King. Delicious beer with lots of flavor. I love this brewery. gilvanblight (341), Windsor, Ontario, Canada Jul 20, 2008 Con tap at The Castle on King. Redish rusty tan pour with a thick head. Strong cent. Hops and malt in the nose, but mostly hops in the mouth. Warm taste that is quite complex. Slight boozy aftertaste (which to me is a good thing) Ported (55), Ontario, Canada Jun 30, 2008 Dark Copper/Reddish Brown, with a small off-white head. Nice balance of hops and caramel-y malts. Slightly bitter, yeasty and a hint of alcohol. Very good job again GRB
