matt7215 (499), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Apr 20, 2008 on tap at the castle on king. 10 oz glass. served a light mahogany with a mid sized tan head. big grand river hop nose with typical grand river malts structure underneath. very similar to the plowmans but the malts are a little different, perhaps more they are just more evident in this brew then in the plwmans. very balanced and enjoyable. ill be getting more of this in the future. thx castle, thx grand river.
gilvanblight (322), Windsor, Ontario, Canada Jul 20, 2008 Con tap at The Castle on King. Redish rusty tan pour with a thick head. Strong cent. Hops and malt in the nose, but mostly hops in the mouth. Warm taste that is quite complex. Slight boozy aftertaste (which to me is a good thing) Ported (51), Ontario, Canada Jun 30, 2008 Dark Copper/Reddish Brown, with a small off-white head. Nice balance of hops and caramel-y malts. Slightly bitter, yeasty and a hint of alcohol. Very good job again GRB tupalev (2267), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 26, 2008 On tap at the Castle on King. Dark copper brown, small white head, looks good. Fresh resiny hop aroma - strong. Taste is terrific - resiny hops, light body, which seems to increase the bitterness, but still a good amount of malt in there. Very bitter, even more so in the finish. This reminded me instantly of the Old Corporal Punishment from Scotch Irish. Probably best to try this one fresh from the source, this is a terrific brew and I look forward to having lots of it when I move to this area this Fall. Great job Grand River. jerc (3056), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 4, 2008 2008-05-31. Dark amber body, creamy off-white head. (3+) Interesting herbaceous notes to the hops in the aroma, mild touches of fruity yeast. Similar flavour, interesting fruit character, light bitterness, tangy finish. Average palate. Pleasant quaffable brew, but I was disappointed to find it much tamer than reports had lead me to expect. Growler shared by DuctTape, Post-Mondial Tasting, Montreal
Rastacouere (5202), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jun 3, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A strong pale ale from a growler brought by one of the Ontarian at the Mondial gathering.
I like:
Woodsy, earthy characteristics shine out of the clean aroma. Not particularly hopped, though it has a more than fair bitterness that seems to come as much from its heavy mineral base.
I dislike:
So mineral that it feels almost salty and that takes a bit too much room for me.
