had on cask at C’est what. nice amber color, some head not much as should be for cask, nose is hoppy, some citrus, little pine needles maybe. more malty flavored then expected from the nose, as has been said kinda estery, decently balanced but not really what i thought it would be. could be the cask, will try and re rate on bottle or reg tap.

Pours an amber colour with not too much head. Aroma of honey with the hoppy bitters. Tastes reminiscent of their Galt Knife, with more hops. Actually fairly diverse. Bottle

I had high hopes for this when I was reading about it but it didn’t come anywhere close to them. Pours a very dark brown with a thin off white head. Aroma is very malty, small earthy hops, pineapple. Taste is sweet malt, soft hop bitterness that is very earthy. This is very much an English IPA, it says 70 IBU but I just don’t believe it.

Pours a clean copper colour with a frothy light-beige head, great retention and thick foamy lacing. Mostly smells like a irish red ale (caramel, hop) with hints of grapefruits in the background. Also in the back, some apples, burnt wood and nuts. The hops comes out more in the taste with a nice mild bitterness and dryness in the finish. Still, lots going on in the far end. Quite interesting actually. Very nice rendition of the classic style.

500 ml bottle from brewery. Pours a clear golden colour with decent lasting white cap. CItrus hops and bready malts in the nose. Malts and hops combine nicely in the taste with a lingering hoppy bitterness. The hard Grand River water is in evidence here as well. Probably my favourite Ontario beer right now.

Courtesy ChzMan. Clear amber, small white head. Corny pale ale. Not much IPA about it. Definite tortilla on the aroma. Medium body, balanced carbonation. Lame.

500 mL bottle. Lovely orange-copper with a medium off-white head that recedes to a thick, sticky film. Mild aroma of bread and pine. Lots of bittering hops, and some hop flavour (herbal) comes in at the end for a nice finish, but I’d like to see some more late addition hops for aroma. Body is solid, no more, with some light toast and caramel. More Brit style than American. Some alcohol in the finish. Body needs some bulkingh up. Good, especially considering the dearth of good IPAs in this province, but I’m still waiting for a great Ontario IPA.

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2010 On tap.
Pours a deep amber-gold with a 2 finger tight-pored cap...good retention, laces well.
Aromas of pine, citrus, fruits and boiled cereals.
A good chew of malt in the front side then an instant balancing with resinous piney hops, some fruit esters, wee bit of citrus then a clean bitter finish.
This GRB offering is a good solid rendition of a Brit style IPA, mild by comparison to executioner’s or Pac NW micro IPAs but full bodied, resinous-piney alpha bite and well enough balanced...very approachable. A solid offering

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2010 RE RATE Unfiltered ruddy clear brown coat and slight plae brown cap. aroma is fresh and open with some crisp acidity. Delicious full taste of dry hops in the English style, quite a bit of body and depth, various flavors of grains and a refreshing sourness. Lemon and green hay, some rooty spice on the late finish which is a signature of GR brews. ***** ORIG RATE On tap at beerbistro. Very decent semi- Brit-style IPA with good hop bitterness and balanced flavors. A favorite local brewer, would like to try it again. 7 / 3 / 6 3 14 = 3.3
